M1500 6.5 CREEDMOOR CARBON FIBER BARRELED ACTION

M1500 6.5 CREEDMOOR CARBON FIBER BARRELED ACTION Reviews & Ratings

Tack-Driving Target Barrel in a Lightweight Carbon-Fiber Wrapped Package!
The Brownells Exclusive Howa M1500 barreled action in 6.5 Creedmoor has a carbon fiber wrapped 24" heavy-contour target barrel to help you get the maximum performance out of this versatile cartridge without suffering the weight penalty of traditional, all-steel target barrels. Fully assembled with the barrel chambered, installed, and properly headspaced, this action eliminates the most difficult work in "building" your own bolt action rifle. Install it in the stock or chassis system of your choice, and you have high-quality custom rifle at an amazingly affordable cost.
Like all Howa M1500 actions, this 6.5 Creedmoor version includes a forged one-piece bolt body with two locking lugs and an integral bolt handle. The bolt face is precisely squared to the barrel chamber for excellent contact with the receiver recess. An M16-style extractor ensures reliable, positive extraction. A full-length bottom metal with hinged floorplate, magazine box, mag spring, and front/rear action screws are part of the package. Receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope base. Other features include:
Heavy-contour yet LIGHTWEIGHT carbon-fiber wrapped target barrel
Muzzle brake / flash suppressor 5/8"-24 tpi muzzle threads (cap included)
Tough matte black Cerakote® finish
Two-stage trigger with 3-position safety
A high-quality target barrel needs to be matched to a precision trigger, which is exactly what Howa did here. You get their HACT two-stage trigger that delivers a light (more accurately "de-lightful"!), consistent pull, and a crisp let-off. The "Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger" has a uniquely configured sear and precision-cut contact surfaces, so creep is entirely eliminated. The three-position safety allows the bolt to be completely locked and also enables the action to be unloaded while on safe. ALL of this adds up to nearly AR-15-like modularity and ease of assembly in a traditional bolt action platform! FFL required for purchase.

Matt's review is bunk...
I've purchased a HOWA 1500 barreled receiver in 6.5CM, dropped it in an MDT Oryx chassis, added an MDT break, and arca rail. It made a phenominal build for the money. It was actually a project I did to teach my son some of the basics of bolt gun gunsmithing. On the one we ordered, we got the "standard" barrel which is incredibly thin. Even my son, with his limited experience, was skeptical as the barrel was so thin, it did not inspire much confidence. As one might expect, it was about 1.5 MOA. We ordered a prefit and the gun is consistently sub MOA. I also want to respond to a 3 star review left by Matt who admittedly doesn't even own a HOWA. His complaint was that the carbon fiber barreled action didn't offer any weight reduction and "actually was .2 heavier." I am not sure which HOWA BA he was comparing the carbon fiber BA to, however, the one that is most apples to apples is the 24" Heavy BA and the carbon fiber Heavy BA is just over 1 lb. lighter. I wanted to point that out and correct a misinformation. The HOWA BAs are an exceptional value and a great way to do a first custom build, first foreray into a new cartridge, or even just for fun. I wouldn't want to do a lot of competitions with the HOWA as my custom gun, however, if you are testing the waters and don't want to break the bank before knowing if competing is for you, then the HOWA is a great option. I would recommend trying the heavy barrel or carbon wrapped heavy barrel over the standard contour though.

The accuracy is predictable
This Howa shoots a predictable pattern every shoot. Packaged with a MDT field stock and hand loaded ammo, its shooting dime size groups at 200 yards. I broke in the barrel with one shot cleans for first 20 rounds, switched to 2 shot cleans for next 10, Then every 5 shots for next 20. Yeh I know it's a lot of ammo, but I was also loading several different bullets and powders at the same time. I just feel like if your going to break in a barrel, might as well see what the heck it likes. I'm not PRS, I'm a hunter. I see above that someone gave it only 3 stars, because of a weight factor, but if you look at a 24 inch heavy barrel in just carbon steel and compare this heavy profile barrel with Carbon wrap, the carbon is over a pound lighter, so with that said I don't understand why someone who does not own one, would give it a bad wrap, ( pun intended). But I choose this for its weight reduction and accuracy, when hunting. Its a great investment and worthy of 5 stars for the money. You can spend more on another rifle or action, but I'm retired and on a fixed income and just can't justify spending more for the great results I'm getting. I'll spend the money for another caliber and good glass.

Howa 24” carbon fiber 6.5 creedmoor
I have owned serveral of the Howa 1500 heavy Barreled actions. They make a great shooting rifle! Accurate paired with a Boyd’s varmint stock in my experience. GREAT “budget” build I guess depending on your budget.

Hesitant to give a review
I don’t like reviews that rave about a product, only to state that they haven’t used it yet. So, at the risk of being a hypocrite, this is a really nice action. The fit and finish are perfect and actually exceeded my expectations. I would give this barrel and action a 5, but I want to know if it’s a shooter. I dont need a Safe Queen. So, once it’s assembled and given a good test drive, I’ll try to follow up. BTW, service on this purchase was awesome. Two day turn-around, and it would have been faster had I not bought after hours on a Friday.

Weight savings
I will admit, I don't own this; however, even if it is as accurate as a factory heavy barrel/action of the same sizes, it's pointless to own...it literally weights the same as the factory one. More specifically from the answer question section, this action/barrel weighs 2 oz.'s more. Not worth it.

Carbon Fiber wrapped NOT lite weight!
I own and have owned Several Howa Action Rifles about 20 or more, I saw this and jumped on it (without Reading the Ad closely) because I would love to have a light weight rifle! And up until now I have resisted the 6.5 Creedmoor frenzy! So Thought Here is a great chance to kill 2 birds! Well The rifle is hardly light weight, it comes in around 9 pound with stock and scope! I have it in a Stocky's VG2 Carbon fiber stock, and a 4x20 Burris Veracity PH and When I Drew a mule deer tag this year in Nevada, well after a trip to the range...... I was not impressed at all, I left this rifle at home! I did carry a 6.5, but a 6.5 x 300 Weatherby Vanguard (Howa Action) Stocky's VG2 stock with a Nightforce 5x25 SHV that is lighter! The Rifle Looks great, but The round is under powered and the rifle is too heavy

Doesn't group well. Barrel contour is NOT even and thread is dirty. Buyers beware
This rifle doesn't group well and I figured out why until I managed to cut open and remove the original barrel, which is a super long time after the initial purchase. The thread is full of rust and takes more than estimated 400ftlb of torque to be removed. The barrel contour is NOT EVEN beneth the carbine fiber wrap. You will step into a no man's land if you have a similar case to mine. It would be very hard or impractical to replace the barrel. And in the meantime no customer service is going to look into your case. Buyers beware.
