Accurate and Consistent
I tested it with several powders, H4895, IMR 4350, N-133, Benchmark and H335. I compared to my Redding beam scale. The unit was accurate and consistent. I used the factory setting and some custom settings. No over or under throws. It is user friendly and was very handy for making ladder loads.
My favorite tool on my bench
I've been contemplating an automatic powder drop for a while. I enjoy Hornady's products and their customer service has always been excellent whenever I called in for issues. I was actually looking to buy a RCBS Chargemaster Lite, but it was out of stock so I decided to give this a try and I really enjoy using it so far. I won't go over too much detail since there are plenty of review videos out there, but the things I like very much is that it can accurately drop my Green Dot powder. Green Dot is great, but it doesn't meter all too well through any of my manual powder drops since it's a flake powder. Plus that crunching noise when dropping just told me I was going to be off. With the Auto Charge Pro, it drops to within .1g accuracy, which is fine for me since I'm not a competitive shooter. I'd say in the 550 rounds of .45 ACP I loaded so far, it's been within 98% accurate as far as my recipe. It does go over once in a while, where the over warning kicks in so that's a welcome safety feature. Pros: 1. 4 memory slots for your most used recipes. 2. Easy to remove the powder from the hopper when done. 3. Accurate enough (for me) Cons: 1. No way to change the volume of the beep, it gets quite annoying after a while. 2. Had some weird drifting well into one of my reloading sessions, but I had the fan on so it could've been due to that and I wasn't using the wind guard. 3. Calibration got stuck once. It took the 10g weight, but it wouldn't continue to the 50g weight. I had to press calibrate to start over. This was a weird fluke as it only happened a single time. In conclusion, if you're a competitive shooter that needs the utmost accuracy, you probably want to skip this, especially for long range rifle guys and gals since it seems .1g can make or break you. However for plinking, this is great. I plan to use this for any of my single stage loading rounds such as 10mm, 223, or when I want a more repeatable powder drop than going through my Hornady LnL. Brownell's has this under their Guaranteed Forever program, so it's a no brainer to get this here instead of anywhere else!
Great Charge Dispenser
The Hornady Auto Charge Pro is my first charge dispenser and I am very impressed in how accurate, as checked on a RSCB digital scale, and how repeatable the charges have been. The screen is very easy to read and the setup for each session of reloading is simple and intuitive. The footprint the unit takes on my loading table is less than what a typical scale would take. I am very satisfied with and would recommend this product to anyone.
One of the best out there!
I ordered mine last April and didnt receive it until July. From July until November, I loaded between 7-8,000 rounds with this and a single stage press. I am very picky and chronograph my loads. The loads I tested were all very consistent. Its easy to use, very consistent. I did have to slow it down slightly on a few powders. I love the round count feature. The hopper holds over a pound of powder, so you can do quite a bit of loading before you need to refill it. Its easy to clean out. Its easy to level. My only problem was that after about 8,000 rounds, the motor would run, but the straw that feeds the powder wouldnt turn. I called Brownells and they replaced it. The replacement didnt cost me anything, but it did take a few weeks until they received the broken one, checked it and then shipped me a new one. I love it and will keep loading with the new one. I am getting ready to load another 2,000+ now with it.
Great reloading tool!
Great tool! It allowed me to adjust accuracy and make it super accurate. This was much much more accurate than my old Lyman. If you are making many match rounds this is the tool for you. The only thing I don't like is that you can't store many loads in the memory like my old Lyman. Fortunately, it's easy to load up data so I can live with that.
Buy RCBS instead
This product is not accurate above 65F This is the second one. The first got sent back as it would start scolling on weight. I checked rounds Id made anywhere from -1gr to +5gr in 50 test loads. Hornady said they couldnt replicate it. New one arrived it worked ok, then it started doing the same. After alot of research the load cells that make it work are temperature sensitive. I tested this theory. Yep its only accurate when its below 65F in my garage. Thats hard to do in TX even with a window ac unit in the garage. Its a great concept but not executed well. I should have listened to the bench rest shooters that said buy RCBS.
Not ready for prime time
First one I purchased would drift wildly. When you zero it, it would not zero but start drifting all over the place between -5 and 12 grains. Tried calibrating, turning off all florescent lights, moving location, nothing seemed to help so I returned it to Brownells. The second unit sent to me seemed awesome! Very stable, would zero and stay at zero. Calibrated perfectly. So I rubbed my hands together and said lets dump some powder, filled up the hopper and set my charge weight and pressed dispense, motor whirred and nothing. I noticed that dispensing tube was not attached. I tried screwing it back on but as soon as I tried to dispense it would come unscrewed. So it is boxed up ready to be sent back to Brownells, do not think I am going to try for a third time.
Not happy with my purchase!
Well, this all started over a month ago when my first order was lost. I finally got a gift card and purchased the auto charge pro. I paid extra for 1 day shipping. When it showed up the auto charge was taken out of the box and set up using the level and then powered on. Right away I noticed the scale would not zero. It would slowly count up with nothing touching it. So, I tried to calibrate it and that didn't work as it would never complete the calibration. Called hornady and was told something was wrong with the load cell. I contact Brownells to get a replacement and they sent a label to ship it back. What really makes me mad is the fact I waited over a month to get my first order taken care of and now I'm out the extra money for shipping and will have to wait another month to get my money back due to a product being defective. I understand everyone is busy but, this is making it hard for me to continue buying from brownells.
