ED BROWN - 1911 Government Drop-In Match Barrel 9mm 5"

This was almost a perfect drop in for a Rock Island Slide I bought. I am making a conversion from a wide body 45 to a 9mm. I bought a Rock Island Slide and parts. This barrel was almost drop in. I had to do some lapping and hard fitting into the frame, but didn't even have to sand any away from the lower lug. Upper lugs fit in tight but no binding. Good fit for my setup. Remember that this may not be as easy on other slides even another Rock Island slide. Just my experience with it. It was a great deal and value for me. Accuracy seems good, but I can't speak to that since I'm not a target style shooter.

I've had a budget 1911 Commander in 9mm for 2 years that has performed flawlessly. I wanted to upgrade the barrel and found an Ed Brown replacement option at Brownells. Took the leap thinking the worst would have me use a gunsmith for installation. The barrel was a perfect fit that only required to 1200 grit sanding to soften some edges on both the barrel and bushing. 30 minutes later I had everything fully assembled and running some snap caps perfectly. At the range my 1911 ran flawlessly with a variety of 9mm ammo. I was truly blown away with how the build specs my budget 1911 were spot on and allowed the Ed Brown barrel to be installed so easily. No gunsmith needed....it truly was "drop-in". Now I have a 1911 9mm keeper with the guts of a true Ed Brown.

I had to do some fitting for this to work in my gun. The instructions provided were very good. Once I got it to lock up, it was still very tight. I took it out to shoot it and it performed very well. I thought the price was great for the high quality barrel, bushing, and link. Consider this a bargain! BTW, shoots as well as it looks. Brownell's gave me some money off on this but, even at their advertised price, I consider it a bargain.

What a great barrel! I bought this to convert my Series 80 Colt 1911 from 38 super to 9mm. It is stainless steel and came with the bushing and the link (the link is installed). Now they say it's a drop in barrel but there's really no such thing with an aftermarket barrel - all require at least minor fitting - so did this one. The fitting was very easy, all I had to do was file some material off the rear barrel lug groove on each side and it locked up tight. That's it, nothing else, didn't change the extractor or the recoil spring. Just dropped it in after removing a little material, I was really surprised I didn't need to do more. No binding anywhere. I took it to the range afterwards and fired 200 rounds through it without a single malfunction (I used 9mm MecGar magazines). Perfect! Super accurate, very reliable! I'll buy another if I need a new barrel for another of my 1911's. This is as easy as it gets for fitting a "drop-in" barrel and I couldn't be happier!
