Where have these been all my life
Just getting that stuck pin out can bend your punch. These are shorter so they do not bend as easily and the tip is replaceable. No more buying a punch (or kit) to replace a bend tool. Have used them several times and have yet to bend an insert.
Replacement Punch tips and punch holder
These are great and I have 3 sets with 3 lengths of each punch diameter. You need to exercise caution gust as with any small diameter punch but with these you can cut and face them as short as needed then progress to the next length. Best of all you buy 6 new tips for less then the price of a single punch so when used properly they are great and flexible per job.
Order this set!
Don't do as I did and order the individual punches ... go ahead and order the 080-513-000 set - you will need each size. In the long run you will save money.
I would by this again
Very well made..I have used these punches for front sight pins and to start other pins out..They work very well and keep you from bending your regular punches. The best thing is;If you ever bend one you can get replacement ends..
Needed some replacement punches
I was routinely bending or breaking my small punches and these promise to be much more stout - so far they have delivered nicely. My sample set is small but on the occasions that have required small punches, I have used these as starter, i.e. to loosen the pins, and then swapped over to longer shanked punches - they have worked every time. I am well pleased so far, BillC
It worked all right, but...
I purchased the .039 punch from here and used to remove a rear sight pin. It worked, okay, but it took some effort just to thread the threaded cone onto the body of the punch--it doesn't thread easily, so it took six attempts to install it. (The threading could've been better.) I'm not sure if this is a manufacturing defect that affected my punch only or whether they're all made this way.
My advice is to be _really_ careful when attaching the cone that its threads mate correctly with the body's.
Right idea - wrong execution
As others have said Will not stay tightened down Knurling is way too aggressive
Not as good as they look
The cap doesnt stay tight so the pin is loose and easily crooked. This makes bending and breaking much easier. Very little use before all of mine were broken.
Buy a normal set, skip these!
The loosen constantly and the knurling is very aggressive which can damage the work piece easily if not paying attention.
Full set of replaceable pin punches
The knurled threaded handles are not threaded deep enough. The largest punch only has about 1/4 of a thread holding the cap that holds the replaceable punch section. Medium punch is not much better. If these were threaded deeper these would be a dream, however the set I received is unusable. I expect more from Brownells as I have been a customer for over 30 years!
