BOLT ACTION FIRING PIN REMOVAL TOOL

BOLT ACTION FIRING PIN REMOVAL TOOL Reviews & Ratings

FIRING PIN REMOVAL TOOL

The Brownells Firing Pin Removal Tool acts as a third hand for removing the firing pin from Remington and Ruger® bolt action rifles without lost parts or sore fingers. Install the correct bushing for your rifle in the end of the tool body. Screw the firing pin assembly into the bushing, and tighten the threaded, steel shank to compress and capture the mainspring. The hollow shank protects the firing pin tip as it slides over the pin to compress the spring. Once compressed, the cross pin can then be driven out with a punch, and the spring tension relieved by gradually loosening the shank. Please note, these WILL NOT FIT Ruger left-handed actions.

Fits: Remington 700, 710, 721, 722, Model Seven, XP-100, M24, and 40X; Ruger® M77® Mark II, 77/22®, 77/17®, 77/44® bolt action rifles.

The Brownells Firing Pin Removal Tool includes: Firing Pin Removal Tool Body, Compression Screw, 1/2”-13 TPI bushing for Remington style bolt shrouds, 1/2"-20 TPI bushing for Ruger Mark II style bolt shrouds, and instructions

Great third hand
I've got 3 or 4 rifles that this bolt removal tool will work with. One definitely needs some bolt work so I figured I might as well get a third hand as I'm getting older. This tool works great.

Must Have
Just simplifies the cleaning and maintenance of firing pins and springs. Using it in conjunction with the Remington Bolt Disassembly Tool provides the easy safe removal of the spring. Worth the money if you're doing a lot of this.

A tool in itself
Works as described. A lot easier than the others which might require other tools.

Easy Peasy
Replaced the firing pin spring on my .270 Win Ruger M77 Mark II because I had a bunch of misfires on some handloads. Removing the factory spring was very easy. Getting the replacement spring on was a little more difficult until I figured out a process. The factory spring is 21 lbs.; replacement spring is 28 lbs. and the replacement spring was approximately 2 inches longer. I put the firing pin and new spring in the tool, then compressed the spring as best I could. I used the rear of the bolt to push the spring into the tool and started threading the rear of the bolt into the tool. Alternating between threading the rear of the bolt and front of the firing pin fully compressed the spring, allowing me to replace the firing pin retaining pin. If I ever had to do this again it would probably take less than 10 minutes. On this first attempt it took me about 25 minutes while I worked out the above procedure. I hope this makes sense, but I'm thinking my directions aren't as clear as what I see in my mind. This is a great tool, and you shouldn't be afraid to try this on your own.
