Great tool!
I am a professional gunsmith and have many tools. This tool is a great addition to my shop. This tool is super easy to use and easy to adjust for either AR bolt size as well as Remington 700 bolts and many others. The review that stated that this tool is difficult to use is absolutely inaccurate! If you can operate an Allen wrench and turn a screw you are good to go! I have other ejector tools and prefer this tool to the others for its versatility and robust design.
Works great
I have a brand new DPMS style (AR10) 308 bolt that has a very stiff ejector. Without a tool I wasn't able to remove the roll pin. I guess you could jury rig something with a cut off case... Additionally, removing the ejector is highly recommended when measuring headspace. The tool is brilliant in its simplicity. It is essentially a mini vise that has 2 different cutouts for 5.56/223 and 7.62/308 bolts. You put the bolt into the cutout and start screwing the piston in that will apply pressure to the ejector so you can punch out the ejector pin. There are little holes underneath so that the pin can drop freely. To swap from 5.56 to 308 you just have to unscrew one bolt with an Allen wrench and move the piston part from the smaller cutout to the larger and put a little supplied tip onto the piston to make its surface a little bigger. I think this tool is a necessity for everyone owning a DI semi auto rifle. Used it already on both calibers and it works great.
Glad I bought it
I am very happy with this tool. Makes it easy to install and remove ejector. You should always remove the ejector when checking headspace and this tool makes the job go faster. If you do this a lot the price will not be an issue.
Does what it's supposed to
I only have one small complaint, which is a knurled knob would be nice. As other reviews have stated, the finish makes the threads a little tight and rough. A little drop of oil and screwing it in and out all the way a couple times fixed it, but turning the smooth knob with oily fingers... some knurling would be nice.
Nice tool for ejector
Nice little tool that makes removing ejector a breeze. My only complaint is I wish there was a better end on the bolt to hang onto and turn. Like a T-handle or a nut. It's not a problem for the .223/5.56 side, but it's a bear on the .308 side........ I didn't have any of the thread problems the other reviews had, threads were great for me and the fit/finish is also great...... price is nice too, about $55 for two tools basically, where the same individual tool can run about $45 EACH or more...... only other drawback (but not really if you are an armorer/gunsmith) is this is a specific tool for a specific job , so some people may have a hard time swallowing $55 for a tool with only one job. If your tired of using a spent shell or punch and then losing parts, get this tool. Makes it so much easier.
Good tool to have...
Currently I have used this tool on 2.5 ar-15 builds. I say 2.5 because one was just a rebarrel. It handily does the job it was designed for but it is only built for that one task and for that it is a bit pricey (which is why the 4 stars) but if your going to be doing a lot of ar-15/10 builds or other rifle bolt work it is a good thing to have in the shop.
Does the job
Well made, but I found others that are more versatile than this shortly after ordering it.
Saves time looking for springs
Saves time and energy looking for lost spring.Give's that needed third hand in diassembly
It's OK but has design flaws
I had high hopes for this tool but quickly realized the flaw that other reviewers touched on. While it has an adapter for the .308, for .223 and .300 blk, none is provided and the tolerance is inadequate and it functions poorly. It really needs an adapter for the smaller size. So I made one. I thought why not use a old case? After some some sizing and a little fine work, I made an adapter that works perfect but really, the tool should come with one already!! It's a nice design but there's room for improvements including the adapter for the smaller size but also an anti-rotate cap which would also be simple to incorporate. The adapter I built can be held with some needle nose to keep it from rotating and turning the ejector when you are compressing the spring prior to installing the roll pin. The tool has potential but there is some room for improvement. Yes I would recommend it to a friend but I'd explain the flaw and the simple fix for it.
2nd Rate
Bought this to make my job a little easier even after reading how the threads were rough, I thought no problem! When I was familiarizing myself with it I noticed the the spring compressor bolt is way to sloppy! With the bolt threaded half way in, there is over 1/8" travel from side to side. This doesn't sound like much but it does not cover the ejector enough that you are a bit leery about the ejector flying somewhere into a black hole never to be found! PS 5 stars for innovation and 2 stars for threading and 0 star for QC
