Standard Base Remington 700 2-pc Matte
Another as expected, quality product from Leupold. In addition to being made for a Remington 700 action, it is a perfect fit for the Howa 1500 receiver.
bases are not on a straight plane
These bases fit up to the gun as expected. However, they are set up for 2 different ring heights. I had a set of 30 mm standard Leupold rings. The front base is .085" lower than the rear, making a poor match.moving up to a high front ring and the medium rear, is .130", and keeping the medium front and moving down to a low gives us a .120". so we either need a .035" shim or a .045" shim, depending on which way you need to go, to make the bases have the same plane. This is a big annoying headache, but it has to be done if you use these bases. From what i understand, there is no other solution out in internet searching land that would work well, so this is the best solution i could come up with. hope this saves somebody a headache.
Needs better description.
Not the best for a custom build. New finish is rough and not old style matte. Must be refinished, bead blasted and blued to match rest of custom hunting rifle. Should have ordered gloss finish. Should be noted in "description" that this is not a matte finish.
