Necessary tool for my range bag
I recently purchased this item to have in my range bag for sight regulation and frame screw tightening if need.
Good driver set.
This purpose built set could be a lot more accommodating for S&W revolvers if it included a couple more variants in size. The currently included four bits are not entirely adequate.
Not 'universal for all S&Ws'
I'm a competitive LE shooter and agency armorer. My shooting partner got this kit for me one Christmas after he saw me rummaging in my rollaway for S&W specific screwdrivers/bits. Most of the S&Ws I work on are stock or match-tuned K, L, and N frame guns of '70s through current dates. The widest of the bits seems to be intended for some aftermarket grip screw. The more S&Ws I work on, the more I run into past screws for which there is no bit in this kit; for example I acquired a 1905/4 32-20 and there is no bit for that pesky fifth screw up by the back sight. I had to hunt in a big-box-store kit to find one thin/wide enough. Also, the sideplate bit has started to twist/distort a little and I don't want to hammer it back straight for fear it will shatter. Good points: I like the length of the bits. Also, there is enough room for an extra bit in the handle, so I made a spare short flat-tip bit into a sight-nut spanner by putting a notch in it with a cutoff wheel. Since it's short, it fits among the other bits. Overall it seems like a hobby grade kit rather than professional. PS please advise me whether you offer a bit to fit that thin slot on the S&W 5-screw upper sideplate screw.
Nice set, but missing an important bit.
I like the bits and the handle and the idea of including a set up the most used bits for a S&W revolver. The problem is, the MOST used bit for my N framed 625 isn't included. None of the included bits properly fit the yoke screw (which appears to need a 180-4 bit. Some of the bits that are included don't seem to fit anything on my revolver. They may be for a different frame size. But, the kit should have the proper yoke screw bit for each frame size.
Excellent Bits
My armored courier company very recently began issuing semi-automatics. But before that, everyone brought me their guns to clean. This 4-in-1 screwdriver let me clean and lubricate everything on our model 64's easily and without damage to the weapons. If you're doing anything with a S&W revolver, you need this.
Close, but Not Quite
I'm a revolver guy mostly. The screwdriver is fine. The bit selection is a bit of a mystery. I expected a 210-3 for a sight adjustment tool. Nope, not included. The 210-2 can be used, but it is more for the cylinder release thumb switch. The 150-3 fits the side plate screws, but nothing for the yoke screw. Maybe the other 2 bits are used in semi-autos, but that's not my area. I mainly wanted something compact I could keep in my range bag for sight adjustment or a quick fix. I have a 210-3 that will fit in the handle. I'll have to locate something for the yoke screw and put the other 2 bits that came with the set in my Wheeler box. They'll find a use someday, no doubt.
Not exactly
Overall it seems like a decent quality all around screw driver but I needed it to work with my j frame plate screws. Here's the problem. The one bit that fits the width of the slot on the screw head does not go all the way down in the slot so it can slip and make a burr. The one that does go all the way down in the slot is short on the width witch of course can make it slip and add a burr. If your real careful you might be able to use it with no slip outs but shouldn't have to be like that. Disappointed that it really doesn't work for it's intended purpose very good but it still is a decent screw driver. This gun is a work horse so I could fix up the screws good enough with a little file/stone and a black sharpie. Not a show piece but would be nice if when I open up my gun to replace springs or what ever I could do it and the screw heads would stay the same.
Driver tips
If you run into a screw that is tight or has locktight on it. The flathead twists without much torque. Seems to be made of very soft material
Not for older S&Ws
Only one bit fit on my older 1914-made S&W N-frame: the 210-2 (5th side plate screw, tension screw). The 120-1 was usable, but undersized. The 150-3 and 210-4 are too thick to fit anything on this revolver. I need a 150-2 for the side plate screws and 150-1 for the grip screw. YMMV.
Seemed Like a Good Idea
The bits seem good (Made in USA). The screwdriver handle is nice (Unknown origin). The problem is they sent me one 120-1 and one 210-2 and two 210-4 bits. I do not need two 210-4 bits. I would have preferred four bits in four separate sizes. Its disturbing that none of these bits seem to fit the Crane screw proprly on M17. Brownells only lists four bits but dosent list their sizes. If they list the sizes somewhere I missed that part of the ad. Ill just take what I got and move on. If I order from them again, however, Ill call for details before I do.
