Lee Universal Decapping Die
Good multi-caliber decapping die. Use to decap 6.5 CM, 300 BLK, 308, and 30-06. Works great. Heavy duty.
Great Value!
Why spend more on another brand? This works for everything up to and including belted magnums. Keeps all the junk out of my good dies. Even the decapping pin is held by a collet and can slip if bound up to prevent damage. Best $12 bucks I have spent on reloading in a while. Overall, I highly recommend for anyone who wants to deprime as separate step.
Great for decapping Remington UML brass
I purchased one of these for decapping the brass for my Remington Ultimate Muzzleloader. Works great!
This is SO WORTH THE MONEY
If you are just starting and concerned about cost, this will be the best 12 bucks invested. Knock the primer out before cleaning then have clean brass to use in ALL your precision dies. The alternative is to clean twice, or to run dirty brass through your precision resize and deprime. Someone gave a 3 star review because this is a tight fit on .2 inch brass. But I saw that on the web page, so I won't use it for 204 ruger.
Excellent Product
This is an excellent product. Been using it for the last 9 years or so and came across it on the website so I figured I'd give it a review. This is such a simple die but makes such a huge difference in my reloading process. Unless the cases are full of dirt (range pickup), I always decap before doing any processing. This lets me wet tumble the cases without the primer, so the entire brass is completely clean before I lube and run through my dies. The Lee universal decapper is about the most simple die in the world. It's just a die body with a decapping pin. When I first started using the die, I needed to tighten the collet to get the pin to lock up well in the top of the die. Since then, it has stayed perfectly. I've never broken a pin and the pin stays put where I have it set. A few years ago, I thought I would try a universal decapper from another manufacturer. I was quite disappointed. The pin broke more than once and the pin wouldn't stay put in the die. That product got sent back and I went back to my tried and trusty Lee die. Go ahead and buy this one. You won't regret it.
You want a spare!
Even though Lee guarantees these as unbreakable, they to break. So have a couple on hand to keep you moving forward in your loading session. Buying from Brownell's cost less than Lee direct.
Protect your more expensive dies
I like to use a universal decapper in my reloading process to help keep my sizing dies clean and prevent fouling from scratching my more expensive sizing dies. Its pretty difficult to mess up a decapping die, but the Lee die does the job well, for a low cost. The slip-collet prevents pin breakage if the die is properly set. For my use, I chucked the spindle in a drill and put a slight bevel on the shoulder of the shank, and filed the pin down to fit through smaller Lapua flash holes - 15 min with a cordless drill, a file, and a couple scraps of sandpaper. The bevel on the shank helps guide the pin into 22 and 20 cal case mouths, and the smaller pin diameter allows decapping of smaller flash hole brass. Ive decapped tens of thousands of rounds with a Lee Universal decapping did without breaking or bending a pin.
A must have work horse!
This decapping die by Lee is truly a beast of a work horse. For the price it cant be beat! It takes abuse from crimped in primers and keeps on ticking. And if the pin does finally break or wear out replacements are cheap enough. Just by a few extra pins to keep on hand when you buy the die. You do have to get a couple of crescent wrenchs or box wrenchs to tighten down the collet. And you do have to put some torque on it or the pin will slide out on tough primers, just FYI. But the collet based system saves your pins, BELIEVE ME! I was decapping 357 sig range brass of various brands and found out that Speer has the small flash holes the hard way. But the pin didnt break it just slid up through the collet and actually ended up getting stuck in the flash hole. Had to pull it apart and use pliers to pull it out. Put the pin right back in my die and proceeded to decap the remaining 100 or so cases without issue( AVOIDING THE SPEER BRASS, lol!) so great part by Lee and VERY DURABLE. Lee products dont get the respect they deserve from some folks. Theyre hard to beat price wise, they work great, they have great customer service, and theyre made right here in the good ol UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Lee decapping die
Pretty simple product. Works good.
A MUST have with Lee Universal Die
If you use a Lee Universal Decaping die, you must have a spare just in case there was a rusted in primer, an old 22 case, or rock inside the care you are de-priming. With a spare rod your progress isn't shut down.
