TRIPLE-K - Ruger Mini-14 Magazine 223/5.56 10rd Steel Black

Magazine overall is made well enough for light commercial use, but not heavy use. Similar to a John Masen mag. Finish is gloss black. Plastic or polymer mag base which looks like it CANNOT be removed??? Follower is cheap plastic or polymer, I don't think it will hold up under heavy use and it tips easily. Bolt will NOT hold open on last round fired. I only bought one mag, had to reload often, which was noticeably more difficult after 7 or 8 rds. Recommend you only load 9 rds and the mag will function 99% of the time. Otherwise the 10th round is so tight, it will NOT strip off reliably 100% of the time. Im in Kolorado, so limited to 15 rd mag max, so only the 10 rd mag available. Lets face it, Ruger makes the best mags for their firearms.... And of course, shipping is always pricy with Brownells.

I know that Ruger Mini-14s have a reputation for liking only OEM parts but a year ago I thought that I would "bite" on this one. After almost a year of having this magazine in my case, I finally tried it. I had no problem loading 10 rounds and the magazine seems to be well constructed. It even looks and feels like an OEM part. Unfortunately, it does not lock into the receiver well at all. The hole on the front side engages the pin in the rifle properly and rotates into place with the usual "click; however, when I let go of the mag, the rear "drops down" approximately 1/16-3/32" and consequently the bolt does not always catch and strip the next round into the chamber. Out of five full magazines, it averaged one miss out of every three rounds. A couple of times it did not even pick up the first round unless I manually pulled back on the magazine to hold the rear end up and in place. My original Ruger OEM 5-shot mag and an after-market TAPCO mag work just fine so it is not the rifle. I can not rely on this magazine so I expect that it will end up in the "recycling" container. Oh well. Another lesson relearned.
