New Products: FM Products Mike-102 & TWS AK Optic Mounts

Brownells new product guru Paul Levy has a special treat for Kalashnikov fans and folks who dream of combining the best of both the AR-15 and AK platforms. The Foxtrot Mike Mike-102 is an AR-AK hybrid upper receiver chambered in 5.56 NATO and designed to work with lower receivers that use AK magazines. The Mike-102 upper comes with a lower parts kit to complete a stripped lower receiver and FM's Picatinny Rail Adapter. The adapter replaces the receiver extension (buffer tube) on the lower so you can install an M1913 Picatinny-mount stock. Like the Mike-15 Gen2 upper it is based on, the Mike-102 does not use an external recoil buffer / buffer tube assembly. The entire operating system is contained within the receiver. Despite its name borrowed from the AK-102, the Mike-102 has the same direct-impingement operating system as the Mike-15.

 

The Mike-102 also does not have a traditional rear charging handle, but rather a forward charging handle that can be positioned on EITHER side of the M-LOK® handguard. You can also position the handle so it angles up or down - whichever is most comfortable for you. While the Mike-102 can be used with other lower receivers designed for AK magazines, Foxtrot Mike offers a matching Mike-102 stripped lower.

 

For folks operating traditional AK rifles, Paul has the Scope Rail / Handguard Kit from Texas Weapon Systems. The Scope Rail replaces your AK's top cover to provide an integral M1913 Picatinny rail for mounting an optic. TWS designed their top cover to eliminate the common bugaboo of optic-mount top covers - difficulty retaining a consistent zero for the optic. TWS's ultra-secure attachment system eliminates unwanted movement, so the optic on it retains a constant zero, even after you've flipped the cover open to clean inside the receiver!

 

The other part of TWS's combo kit is an M-LOK® handguard with a Picatinny top rail in the SAME PLANE as the top cover's rail - great for mounting a night vision optic or backup sights. There's a second Picatinny rail on the handguard's underside for a vertical foregrip, light, or other accessory.
