Texas Weapon Systems’ Gen 3 Dog Leg Scope Rail attaches directly over the receiver, providing a secure platform for mounting a red dot sight or scope. The ingeniously simple and rugged Gen 3 Dog Leg Scope Rail employs a forward hinged, quick-release cover with rear cam-lock to preserve the AK’s field stripping qualities. The Texas Weapon Systems Gen 3 Dog Leg Scope Rail incorporates a takedown pin behind the main hinge, allowing you to remove the rail from the rifle without having to take the scope off. The Texas Weapon Systems’ Gen 3 Dog Leg Scope Rail fits most AK pattern rifles, including stamped and milled receivers, as well as fixed, under-folding and side-folding stocks. The adjustable front tab allows custom fitting to the user's individual weapon.

My only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner.
I already had an optical mount on the side of my AK, but I was never happy with it. Then I found this guy. I did some research and decided this was the way to go and boy was I right! No more stamped dust cover and no chunk of metal hanging off the side of my rifle. This thing was easy to install, is made well, is heavy duty and fits solidly. No rattle and no wiggle. I mounted an LPVO to it and it is rock solid and maintains zero – despite my son’s doubts that it would do so. Because of the length of the LPVO I do have to completely remove the Dog Leg in order to remove the guts and clean the rifle rather than just tilting it up, but that’s not a problem. I just give a little nudge to the retaining pin, pull it out, (as far as it will go since it is retained), and pop the Dog Leg off. I purchased the Dog Leg eight months ago, have pulled it off and reinstalled it multiple times and the rifle has always maintained zero. I got a great deal when I bought it, but would willingly pay the higher price it now goes for considering the results I got. Note that I also picked up the Texas Weapon Systems Hob Nob to attach to the rifles charging handle. Another good decision as it makes charging the rifle easier and more comfortable.

These are hands down the best dust cover rail system out there in the modern world. I have put one on both of my AKs. Easy enough to install and holds zero. Also definitely adds a modern touch to an old system.
