What is the OTIS - Vise Soft Jaws Flat?

For gunsmiths or firearm owners working on their AK firearms, the Otis AK Soft Jaws are an essential item to protect your AK while keeping it secure in a vise. Works with light duty vises up to large, heavy duty vises (minimum vise jaw measurement is 4”L x 0.5”H). Composed of a non-slip rubber material, these soft jaws have the perfect balance of hardness to keep even the smallest parts clamped and flexibility to mold to the various shapes of a firearm. Softer than gun parts, these soft jaws will not mar or scratch gun metals. The rubber is oil, solvent and alcohol resistant and easily wipes clean. They also feature a top lip which not only help protect the firearm but in conjunction with embedded magnets, also hold the Soft Jaws to the jaws of the vise. Designed by a group of professional gunsmiths, the AK soft jaws are designed specifically for AK firearm platforms and feature detailed contouring and rivet holes to perfectly fit and securely hold rifles of the AKM pattern, the most commonly found AK style. This Soft Jaw will not fit RPK pattern AK rifles.

Great product, weak magnets.

I use these in two of my smaller vices in my shop. They are a great product except for the weak magnets. You can buy magnets from K&J magnetic's (product# D62SH). They are 3/8"x1/4" and pop in and out easily with a pick. Make sure to buy the neodymium magnets which are stronger than regular magnets.

Excellent tool

These soft jaws are very rugged and fit the gun perfectly. Brownells shipped them very quickly.

Good Product

Fits my four inch Craftsman vice nicely. Magnets are OK but could be stronger. However, it pretty much stays in place. A necessity for putting wood stocks in the vice. Otis makes quality products.

Set works well for most applications

I bought these to use on my Wilton 5 vise to hold rifle barrels while doing minor gun smithing. I replaced flash hiders with muzzle brakes on two AR-15s and the soft jaws held the barrel in place very well. I think the channels in the jaws made it a little more difficult to keep the jaws aligned while clamping down on the barrel because the barrel wasnt perfectly horizontal. I feel the jaws with the flat surfaces might have worked better in that case. Regardless, they still worked. I am seriously considering buying the flat surface jaws as well to have the flexibility.

Gets the job done

I get it, they're vice jaws, nothing earth-shattering but if you don't want to damage your project, these are a necessity. Main issue with these are the magnets are weak on one of them but the other holds OK. I replaced the center magnet on each with 3/8" x 1/4" from K&J Magnetics (https://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D62SH); they're just push-fit so you can pop them out with a dental pick, literally took a minute and now they don't fall off my vice. I'll be ordering the "general purpose" one eventually because it's another good tool to have in toolbox.
