What is the REMINGTON - REM OIL?

REMINGTON REM OIL

Advanced formula cleans, lubricates and protects your valuable firearms so they’ll keep running smoothly and looking like new. Penetrates into the smallest metal pores, then leaves a tough, long-lasting film to help reduce metal-to-metal wear. Quickly displaces even microscopic traces of water for advanced moisture resistance and rust protection. Available in bottles or aerosol cans for a variety of different applications. Plastic bottles dispense oil one-drop at a time, especially useful when lubricating small individual parts. Aerosol spray works great on large areas like actions; includes a straw to direct oil into those hard-to-reach areas. Pre-moistened, disposable towelettes are ideal for wiping down your firearm after a hard day in the field or at the range.

SPEC: 1 oz. (30ml) plastic dropper bottle, 4 oz. (113g) or 10 oz. (284g) aerosol spray can.

Reviews Summary
REMOIL is widely praised for its effectiveness in lubricating and protecting firearms, with users appreciating its light viscosity and ease of application. While it's effective for maintenance, some reviewers noted it may not perform as well under heavy use or for tightly-toleranced firearms. Overall, it's considered a reliable choice, especially for regular upkeep.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Product Effectiveness
75%
Many users commend REMOIL for its ability to lubricate and protect firearms, citing its effectiveness in preventing rust and ensuring smooth operation of various gun components. A significant portion of reviewers highlighted its utility for light maintenance over other tasks.
Viscosity and Application
60%
The thin consistency of REMOIL is a common point of discussion. While some appreciate its ability to penetrate and coat surfaces, others find it too light for their needs, leading to challenges in application and effectiveness in high-stress situations.
Use Cases
50%
Reviewers have shared diverse use cases for REMOIL, from firearms maintenance to applications on fishing equipment. It is appreciated for ease of use in routine cleaning but not recommended for heavy-duty lubrication needs.
Comparative Performance
40%
Some reviews compare REMOIL to other lubricants, indicating that while it works well for general use, alternatives like Break Free may perform better under more demanding conditions, particularly for tightly-toleranced firearms.
Messiness and Residue
30%
A few users expressed concern about the residue left by the spray version of REMOIL, which can create mess and requires additional cleaning. This factor contributes to varying degrees of satisfaction among users.

Always on the Bench
I always keep a can on the bench. I use it to coat the bore of every gun after I’m finished cleaning and I run a dry patch through before I head for the range. It’s amazing what that patch picks up after soaking in the bore for awhile.

Great lubricant
I have used this oil to liberate moving parts on all my firearms and to put a light coat over my firearms for protection

Rem Oil changed in 2018
Remington changed the formulation because folks complained of it being too thin. It now has a higher viscosity and it appears the Teflon was removed as well. Brownells only sells the 'new' formulation and it is thus thicker. I like both the old and the new Rem Oils, but I wish they would have kept making the thinner oil (with Teflon) as well.
