How To Install a Midwest Industries AR-15 Handguard

Author Caleb Savant

Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant shows us step-by-step how to install a Midwest Industries G4 M-LOK® AR-15 handguard. Good news: it's an easy process. The G4 typically comes out of the box with the barrel nut, spacer, and screws installed. You'll have to remove them before you put it on the rifle. Is the barrel nut stuck in the handguard? Watch Caleb's simple trick for extricating it. Now, install the barrel into the upper receiver. Don't forget the lube! (Caleb's using Brownells Action Lube Plus®.) A little lube on the barrel nut threads AND on the face of the barrel extension then... Screw on the barrel nut and hand tighten it. Put the included barrel nut wrench on your adjustable torque driver and tighten it up to a little more than 35 ft.-lbs. (Recommended range for an AR-15 barrel nut is 35 to 85 ft.-lbs.) Install your gas block / gas tube assembly. For a test fit, slide on the handguard, lining up the anti-rotation tabs with the upper receiver. Then remove to install the spacer. The spacer goes in only one way, AND Caleb has a tip for checking to be totally sure it's in correctly. Slide the handguard on for good, and torque down the screws to secure it. Install your muzzle device and bolt / carrier group.... And you're ready to mount accessories on your new Midwest Industries G4 M-LOK® handguard!
