HORNADY CAM-LOCK CASE TRIMMER Reviews & Ratings

HORNADY CAM-LOCK CASE TRIMMER

Thanks to the unique way the case is locked in place in the shell holder, this trimmer accurately restores fired cases to the correct length no matter the thickness of the cartridge rim.

The lever locks the case in place. The Micro Adjust cutter allows .001" changes without moving the case (extra cost on competitor trimmers). Plus, its large diameter, replaceable cutting head is made of ultra-hard tool steel and trims cases up to 50 caliber.

Use only standard Hornady® shell holders and pilots.

Includes ten of the most popular pilot sizes: 22 cal, 6mm, 25 cal, 6.5mm, 270 cal, 7mm, 30 cal, 35 cal, 38 cal, 45 cal.

The quality is praised, but there are complaints regarding compatibility with shell holders and durability of parts. Overall, it's seen as a solid choice for experienced users but may not be reliable for everyone.

What Reviewers Are Saying

Precision and Performance

45%

Many users praise the trimmer for its ability to produce precise and uniform trims, particularly when set correctly. However, achieving this accuracy requires careful adjustments, especially for larger case trims. Users report that for everyday use with consistent calibration, it performs well, although some mention that it can falter with more significant adjustments.

Assembly and Durability

30%

Several reviewers experienced difficulties during assembly, particularly with the cutter head threads stripping and requiring makeshift solutions for secure installation. These issues detracted from overall satisfaction, leading to concerns about the trimmer's long-term durability and reliability.

User Experience and Design

35%

The design features, especially the cam-lock mechanism, received positive feedback for holding the case securely and ensuring a squared cut. However, some users found the micro-adjustment feature frustrating, as it did not always function smoothly, impacting their ability to set precise case lengths easily.

Shell Holder Compatibility

25%

A common frustration among users is that the trimmer requires specific Hornady shell holders, rendering many existing ones incompatible. This limitation led to disappointment for those who had invested in a broader set of tools, necessitating additional purchases to use the trimmer effectively.

Instruction Quality

20%

Reviewers noted that the instructions provided with the trimmer were helpful, contributing to a more positive experience for users who followed them closely. Clear guidance played a role in optimizing the trimmer's setup and operation, enhancing overall satisfaction.

Needs more engineering

This trimmer drives me nuts trying to set it to a specific case length that I want. The two piece "micro adjust" is anything but as the lock ring drags the adjust ring with it and not in a uniform manner.I'd like to sell this thing.
