XM177E2 COMPLETE UPPER RECEIVERS

XM177E2 COMPLETE UPPER RECEIVERS Reviews & Ratings

Based on popular carbine configurations, these XM177E2 Upper Receivers are ready for your next Retro build.

The muzzle of the XM177E2 Upper Receiver, is capped by the classic XM177E2 moderator inspired flash hider, with ports around its radius. This muzzle device is a flash hider, unlike the original XM177 muzzle device, which was technically a suppressor.

The flash hider is attached to a lightweight 11.5 or 12.7 inch barrel. Why 12.7 inch? The 12.7 inch model has its muzzle device pinned and welded in place, allowing the overall length of the barrel to reach the required 16” for a rifle.

Barrels are available with a 1-12 or 1-7 twist. Select 1-12 if shooting 55gr bullets, and 1-7 if shooting 62gr or heavier. The front sight base is not F-marked, meaning the round, tapered front sight post is properly in line with the carry handle rear sight. The black carbine handguards closely emulate the original CAR handguards. These barrel assemblies do have a tapered slip ring, which is proper on carbines of this type.

Mounted to the upper is a proper ejection port cover, with a flat external "bump" (not just an off the shelf A2). The receiver is the proper M16A1 style, with a forward assist but no shell deflector. The rear sight is the standard A1 aperture, that can easily be adjusted with a cartridge or tool. Included bolt carrier group is the proper manganese phosphate mil-spec BCG, with chrome lined interior.

Terrific customer support
Ordered a 177 upper. Due to travel requirements, I needed to delay shipping. Customer service supported delaying this shipment and a small following shipment I’ve seen complaints about uppers from other vendors not mating properly. This one was a perfect fit with a standard lower. Happy customer here

Prototypical appearance with updated performance
I prefer Brownells’ XM177E2 over Palmetto/H&R version. Brownells quality is superior in my opinion from coating, performance and hardware.

CAR-15 BUILD
Been waiting on this complete upper to come into stock so I can finish building my clone car 15. This thing is looking awesome. After receiving this complete upper I cleaned it well to get rid of all the protective oil I even checked the bore with a borescope and the bore looks really great. The only reason I'm giving it a four-star instead of a five is I haven't shot it yet just waiting on a couple small parts before I get to see how it really performs. Thanks Brownells for bringing a quality product at an affordable price to Market.

Disappointed
As a long time, builder of various weapons, I was expecting a period correct retro upper receiver assembly, especially from Brownell and for the price. The upper receiver that I received has a gloss black finish. I have XM177 style AR's from the 70's and the finish of all of them is flat gray anodized as the originals were. If it had to have a black finish to match many of today's lowers it should have at least been flat black anodized, not gloss. The finish and fit of the rest of the build was well done and the plan is to eventually swap out the gloss finished receiver with a correct finished receiver.
