336 marlin replacement stock
Wood was great once I finally got it a week later them it said. It required way more fitting then it should have . I had to remove over 5/16 of inch of wood in several places. With today's technology fitting should have been minimal. Took over 3 hours of trimming and sanding. The lower frame slot was way to wide looks terrible. Top slot for frame fit perfectly. I won't order another one

It works
Some fitting required to make it work. Not a 100% match from the original stock that was on the rifle but it's close. Overall good quality.

Good quality
The wood quality of this stock is good. The way it feels in your hands is good too. The downfalls are it needs to be sanded down some to mount flush with the receiver. The other problem is the hole for the tang screw aint drilled when you get it and that can be a pain to get straight.

Takes Work
The inletting actually fit my 336 pretty well. Of course I had to drill the hole for the stock screw, which is a hidden screw on the bottom side. If you know how to do this you'll be OK; if not, let somebody knowledgeable do it. My greater concern is with the finish. As advertised, the stock has an oil finish, but in my opinion it's not well done. I added several more layers of finish. With each layer, however, it became increasingly clear that the stock had machining and handling marks that had not been adequately sanded. There were even a couple of dings that require steam to remove. To be clear, these dings did NOT occur in shipping from Brownell's. The stock was extremely well packaged and arrived quickly after I ordered it. Also, if you want to forend to match the stock, you'll have to refinish it. That's not a huge deal, but it is something to take into account.

Serves Purpose
Replaced broken stock on my Marlin 336W. This stock serves its purpose. Does not match factory fore grip stock at whatsoever . I am not picky about these kinds of things for my brush rifle, took my over an hour to fit it and I am very experienced in wood carving and wood working. Like I said serves its purpose. Not the best fit, not the best looking.
