Black Max is THE perfect way to mount the front sight of a Ghost Ring sight set. Easy, quick and durable. Use ONLY for metal to metal for maximum strength.
A must have for the tool box
I have used this product several times for mounting scope bases and sights, with out any failures to date. This is a GREAT alternative to drilling and tapping those older collectable 22's. You do have to make sure that the surfaces are ultra clean, and a little scuffing on aluminum parts is recommended. If you do have to remove it, it can be "sheared" using a brass drift, some tape to avoid any unwanted marking of the fire arms, and a couple of sharp raps with a hammer. You can remove any residue with acetate and some elbow grease.
4 yrs and still holding
ive used this stuff for everything and it has always been great. I mounted a scope mount onto a shotgun barrel with ONLY loctite 380. its a slug/turkey gun and has held up for 4 years now with at least 300 rounds through it. I even hit the mount with a hammer to try and see how it would hold up. dented the mount a tad but the mount is still firm. this stuff works!!!! Just make sure you are working with a clean surface.
Better than a third hand!
Excellent adhesive. I use it to hold parts tp a mandrel or machining fixture during lathe and milling machine work. It holds parts well enough to withstand the pressures of lathe and mill cutting tools. Parts can be removed with heat. Also good for attaching things like banded ramp front sights, rear sight bases, and barrel band sling studs. Excellent aide for holding otherwise difficult to hold parts during machining.
Excellent Results
I have always sworn by Loctite products and this one does not disappoint. I used this product to attach an XS glue-on bead over the standard bead of an 870 tactical. It has a very fast set up time and is super strong. I have had no problems, even with the heaviest of buckshot loads.
When it says clean surface, it means it
In applying a Mossberg ghost ring sight kit, I needed something to attach the front sight, but didn't want to do silver solder or welding. I had a buddy who'd used regular Loctite and had a sight fall off, so I looked for a specific product for sights. I read up on Loctite's Black Max and tried it. I cleaned both barrel and sight with carb cleaner and then made sure they were dry and devoid of all contamination. It glued on quickly, was controllable, and secured the front sight to the barrel so tightly that it seemed impervious to any impact. Then I went to shoot it. After about 50 rounds of buckshot and 10 slugs, (say the next part in Ron White's voice) "it fell off". It didn't fall off in the middle of firing, it just fell off. It wasn't the impact that jarred it, it was probably due to being a 100 degree day and heating up the barrel from the fired shells. Loctite has a material data sheet on the Black Max, and it begins to lose adhering properties as it gets hotter. I didn't get the barrel up to 400 degrees, but it got warm enough that it didn't stay sealed to the barrel. So I tried again, this time taking a steel brush and dremel to both the bottom of the sight and the barrel, and scoring both lightly with a knife to provide more adhering surfaces. Upon gluing bare metal to bare metal, I let it rest for a night, then went out to try it again. 50-60 rounds worth of buckshot and slugs later, the sight was still securely, firmly attached. I'd give it 5 stars if it hadn't fallen off the first time. As is, it seems very, very secure, but I'd rather not have to look for a sight that falls off at the range, or lose it during a competition or worse yet. It works well with completely bare metal on bare metal, though. And I'd never worry about it on any parts that don't get exposed to high heat.
Black Max
I used this to mount the front sight part of mossbergs Ghost Ring sight set up on my Mossy 500. It has held up extremely well thru about 125 rounds of 2 3/4 00 buck loads. It is shinier than the parkerized finish on the gun so I spray painted it with some flat black paint and now it looks great. This stuff is strong!
Virtually Useless
I changed barrels on my 870 and needed to change a bead sight to a post sight for my ghost ring. Purchased the scattergun technologies front post sight and got the loctite that was recommended to be used to attach it. Followed the directions to the letter. Put an estimated 30 rounds down range and then on my next shooting drill, came on target and the front site was gone. Fortunately was able to find the sight and will try solder next time.
Use Caution!
Not a replacement for silver solder! I tried this product as an alternative to soldering a front sight on a Ruger SBH in .44 mag. I Followed the directions and even allowing over a week for cure time. After less than a dozen moderate 240 gr. loads, the front sight flew off into the weeds. I'll use solder the next time...
