Makes the mags much easier to handle without getting in the way. Reloads much simplified.

This item is an essential addition to any gi AR mag. It really makes a difference in mag changes, especially under pressure. Downside is that the price is a little high but such is life. T
On Every Mag I Can Put It On!
Not only aids in grasping the magazine, but more importantly turns the mag into a monopod. The only downside is that it extends the length of the magazine so it may not longer fit in closed-top pouches, such as found in a lot of tactical vests. Easily solved by adding a velcro extension to most vest closures...
USGI RANGER pulls
These are nice, smaller than the rubber loop pulls, relatively easy to install. The only problem is you lose 1 round in the magazine. It’ll fit but the magazine won’t catch. Not a big deal as I have plenty of magazines to compensate.
Fits Mil-Spec Mags
Well made, sturdy, easy to use. Fits mil-spec 20 and 30 rd mags perfectly however cuts down capacity by 2 rounds (Hence the 4 star rating). If you're cool with that, go for it. I'm not so will not be using them because when the spam hits the fan, ya just might need 'em!!!
Good once installed
These Ranger plates are a great addition to the M16/M4/AR15 magazine. They provide easier acqusition from a mag pouch and alsohelp with inserting the mag, The rubber grip contours nicely with a "beer can" grip. There is only one real drawback (aside from the annoyance of getting them installed) is that they only hold 28 rounds. The packaging itself says not to load more than 28 rounds because it can affect feeding. Not much of an issue for those of us north of the border as our 30 round mags are all capped at 5. To those who enjoy high capacity mags, you'll have to run 2 short.
Loss of a round
I ordered two packages of this item. After installation on the Brownells 30 rd mags, I found that the plastic base that has to be installed causes you to lose one round making the mag lite 1 rnd. Overall I like the product and makes it much easier to retrieve the next mag from the pouch. The only negative is the loss of that one round that could make the difference between living or dying.
These floor plates are the "cats meow"!!
These floor plates are great when the mag pouch you are using is "deeper" than the mag is long. Simply hook a finger into the floor plate and pull. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to install. I have them on ALL my AR mags. The only "con" is that when they are installed, they limit a 30rd mag to 29rds, especially if you have the good Gen 3 anti-tilt followers installed. This is due to the way the floor plates are locked into the mag. The floor plate lock takes up about 1 cartridge height of space right above the floor plate, inside of the mag. When used with the Gen 3 anti-tilt follower (Magpul), the follower bottoms out on top of the lock at round cartridge number 29. What I've done to "improvise, overcome & adapt" this problem, is to take the anti-tilt follower and put each leg to a grinding wheel so that approx. 1/4" inch is taken off of the follower. The follower still retains its' anti-tilt abilities but also lets the user stuff the mag with the intended 30rnds. THAT is why I only gave the floor plates a "4" rating. Other than that, yes, they really are the "cat's meow"!!
Product description doesn't mention only 29-round capacity.
So, I probably should have checked reviews before I bought, but in fairness, the product description does not reference that the floorplate drops your magazine capacity from 30 to 29 rounds. Technically, you could try to force a 30th round in, but you'll have a tougher time getting it in, and then your magazine won't feed properly. Kind of like if you try loading a 31st round in otherwise.
You could try to cut one or two coils off the mag spring, but that'll cause issues if you ever (for whatever reason) want to remove the floorplate and go back to the original one. If you intend to use these for competitions or duty, I'd skip this product. If you're just going to use them at the range, or really want the weight savings from aluminum mags like D&H's (which is what I tried these on) and are willing to mess with the spring, they'd work ok. But otherwise, I'd just stick with the PMAG version, which works fine and lets you load all 30 rounds.
