What is the WARNE MFG. COMPANY - MAXIMA 2-PIECE STEEL BASES?

The Warne Maxima Steel Bases are modeled around the popular Weaver design, which is one of the strongest and most versatile mounting systems available today. The low profile of the Maxima Steel Bases give your firearm a sleek look. When used in conjunction with Warne Maxima QD Rings, the shooter is able to utilize the open sights by looking over the top of the bases without sacrificing the normal shooting position behind the firearm. Maxima Bases also offer a full width recoil slot in each base. This feature allows the recoil control keys of Warne Rings to attain maximum bearing surface.


SPECS: 12L14 steel. Available in polished blue, matte blue, or silver. Two-piece only, Includes mounting screws. Do not mix Maxima bases with other brands of Weaver-style base, the heights are often different. RHS = Rear Hole Spacing.

WARNE IS QUALITY
Even though SAVAGE provides bases on their rifles . I prefer to swap them out for WARNE bases . SAVAGE base screws are soft and i have had the heads strip out with normal torque settings . Not so with WARNE . Fifty years of scope mounting all brands taught me WARNE is the best .

To steel or not to steel?
Ordered these for and mounted them on my BLR 81 Lightweight Takedown. The package states they are for steel receiver BLR'S but fit my aluminum receiver BLR beautifuly. They are a very low profile base and allow ample clearance to use the the factory sights. Took more than 8 (10 to 11) weeks to get but worth the wait.

Excellent fit, finish, function, value
I prefer steel bases on heavy recoiling rifles and/or rifles built for long-range precision shooting. I've used these Warne bases on several Winchester 70 Coyote Lites in various WSM calibers. The bases fit perfectly, aligned true, and have held strong despite heavy recoil of the WSMs. I will continue to buy Warne bases!

Mostly good, but....
The product appears to be well made and in the end it went together well and is working. That said, I need to report that the screws included were too long such that when fully seated the heads protruded above the surface. This prevented the rings from seating properly. This required some modification of the screw heads. I was able to file off the top few millimeters of metal until the screws were able to recess properly under the surface of the mounts.
