AERO PRECISION - SOLUS Short Action Magnum Receiver for Remington 700 Black

This is my second Solus action. Pair it with a proof or bartlein barrel and you’re good to go!

Ordered a prefit proof barrel that is on back order. Hope it will be awesome.

I ordered a Solus action directly from Aero on 12/3/2024. After waiting almost two months to wait for it to show up Brownells had one come back in stock. Ordered it from Brownells the same day I waited on hold at Aero for over 2 hours before they disconnected me & over 2 hours online trying to get someone on their "chat". I had to try Aero's support ticket system to ask them to cancel my order & I received an email that they got my ticket. Two days later I had my action from Brownells sitting at my FFL. The same two days later Aero sent the order I tried to cancel to my FFL. YEP now I have two. VERY FRUSTRATED WITH AERO!!!! To make matters worse the one Aero sent me didn't have the barrel nut or wrench in the box. No wonder why Aero doesn't man their chat, phones, nor actually ever follow up with a call or email with their ticket system. NEVER buying directly from Aero again! That aside... Solus action. It's decent for the price for an entry level "custom" action. Honestly it really isn't much smoother than a slightly lapped factory Remington action. Once you put a barrel on the action and head space it you will find that you need to use a decent amount of pressure to overcome the sharp angles on the bolt face and lugs or the bolt handle will not close. It isn't bad, but it is there and could be fixed with a tiny bevel on the leading edge of the lugs. The weight of the bolt lift of the one I received from Brownells is 1.75 pounds. The bolt lift from the one directly from Aero has a bolt lift of 8.5 pounds. My factory Remington actions bolt lift(s) average at 4.5 pounds. You be the judge but I think I got a lemon and a decent action, don't like having to roll the dice after paying a FFL transfer fee! I love the Savage small shank thread pattern for barrels and the prefit shouldered Bighorn barrels are super nice if you don't like the nut. I've put two shouldered bighorn orgin barrels on my action and they head spaced perfectly. The trigger hanger is nice. Maybe not needed but nice. Don't think I'll be swapping out triggers, heck I'm not sure if you can even get an extra trigger hanger. Just throw a Trigger Tech Diamond in there and you have 4oz to 2 pounds or a special that goes from 1.5 pounds (usually you can get 1 pound) up to 3.5 pounds and you can adjust it in the stock no problem. I'll be sending back the 8+ pound lift action because that is just not what I signed up for. Hopefully they will either refund me or replace it with one that doesn't have such a heavy lift. If that is in spec then I wouldn't even consider buying a solus. We will see. My experience, your mileage may vary. Don't hate the action, but I'm not falling head over heals for even the good one yet either.

I hope this helps some of your customers. For anyone thinking about purchasing this action and dropping it into an Aero Precision MPR chassis. It will Not drop in without slight modifications to the chassis. There's a couple issues with this particular combination. 1. The bolt release on the action interferes with the design of the chassis. It won't fit without machining some material on the chassis to allow the release button to fit. 2. The ejection port on the action is larger than what's on the chassis. That will have to be machined as well if you want to utilize the full size of the ejection port. 3. The included barrel nut will not fit with an X Caliber carbon fiber barrel. The I.D. of the barrel nut will have to be machined as well to make it all fit. Just a heads up for anyone looking to put together this combination. Otherwise it seems like a good action.
