What is the BROWNELLS - BRN-4 STRIPPED BARRELS?

Brownells BRN-4® HK® 416 compatible barrels, available in a variety of lengths and two contours.

Historically extremely hard to procure, HK® 416 compatible barrels are now available as part of the BRN-4® lineup. These barrels machined by Faxon, fit early generations of HK® 416 upper receivers and components. They are the perfect fit with the BRN-4 bolt carrier group and gas block (search “BRN-4” for all parts).


Available in common barrel lengths of 10.4, 14.5 and 16 inch, these barrels are suitable for any need. You can select the classic “heavy” profile, which is similar to the profile found on earlier HK® 416 models, ensuring barrel rigidity with minimal flex, or you can pick the new “medium” profile, which saves weight and makes the rifle quite handy. Barrels are button rifled from 4150 chrome moly steel with a 1-7 twist and have commonly used ½-28 muzzle threads for the attachment of the muzzle device of your choice. A deep black nitride finish provides an extremely hard exterior and interior, that is easy to clean.


The longer barrel extension of the BRN-4 allows for a robust matchup to the upper receiver, and a simple install with the BRN-4 barrel nut (430-100-141). 5.56x45mm NATO chamberings allow for a wide variety of commercially found ammunition to function, as well as 223 Remington cartridges. No need to worry about picking the right gas system length, as all of these barrels have the same piston rod assembly (078-000-644), just be sure to pick the correct BRN-4 gas block to match your overall barrel length, (078-000-708 & 078-000-709). Be sure to pick up the gas block coil pins for final assembly as well (430-103-127).

14.5 Mid-weight; 1k review
Summer 2023 Production barrel; Finally got my 416 assembled at the beginning of 2024 and have been running it ever since. I'm somewhere north of 1k through the barrel at the time of writing this. Barrel is solid. For a traditional button rifled barrel from Faxon, it's hard to complain. The gassing is perfect, and it works flawlessly with an HK buffer weight and Springco Blue, with a solid 3:30-4 o'clock ejection pattern, that barely deviates with a Surefire RC3. Accuracy is fantastic, at approximately 1 MOA with match ammo, and it maintains 1.5-1.75MOA on a 50 round string for testing. Genuinely, the only way to make this better is to release a CHF+CL version. (BRNxDD when? Y'all have the exclusive SOCOM uppers, just sayin)

Great barrel, great system
Finally received my backordered 14.5 medium barrel and got this brn -4 build finish and all I can say is: I'm in love. The system functions flawlessly! The barrel fit perfectly in an HK MR556 upper along with the other BRN-4 parts (with the exception of a geissele rail). I think sub-moa accuracy is very achievable with match ammo. The barrel is gassed very well and cycles beautifully when paired with an A5 H1 buffer system and green sprinco spring. Repeatable 4 o'clock ejection unsuppressed. With a can I was getting a 2-3 o'clock ejection. I was a little worried that the brn-4 non-adjustable gas block wasn't going to regulate the gas sufficiently, but it worked great. Brownells nailed it with this system.

Great barrels for the price!
I have two of these barrels (14.5” & 10.5”) and will be ordering a 16” soon. These barrels fit my factory HK 416 stripped uppers very well. Using the Brownell’s barrel nut, I’ve installed Geissele and 416 quad rails on them. The barrels have offered great accuracy, are well made, and have functioned extremely reliably with the HK piston and Brownell’s BRN4 BCG. I’m very happy with everything about these barrels—including the price—considering that they are roughly 1/3 to a 1/4 of the price that other retailers want for HK factory and clone barrels.

Okay, but not great.
I ordered the heavy 16” barrel and it came with a long scratch right behind the muzzles threads which isn’t nice to receive when paying so much and for new. The barrels extension hands down is not to HK’s specs regarding fitment as the true HK416 upper I’m using like others had said is very loose and most don’t think that’s a big deal when barrel nuts tightened down which is a total falsehood. The barrels listing claims the gas block journal is .750 which again isn’t true and is wider, but luckily real HK gas blocks still barely fit. But problem for me is I paid $70 for a .750” HK bayonet adapter that won’t slide on the barrel which it should with ease, but again isn’t to spec as even the slightly thinner part of the barrel past the gas blocks journal still isn’t thin enough to fit the verified .750” bayonet adapter. So with two areas of the outside diameter of the barrel and the barrels extension being off makes me wonder what else was done improperly. If I had any other choice….
