It Works Well for Small Areas and Parts
I have used this product for over 20 years. Each of these cold blues has a different finish. I would match the cold blue I used to the finish on the firearm. I would use Paste blue on one, 44/40 on another, and OXPHO-BLUE on something else. After a while, you get to know what type of cold blue you use on each finish. With Paste Blue I clean the part with M-PRO 7 - Gun Cleaner or alcohol, which ever is most convenient, while wearing gloves, to keep oil off the parts. If the part is small, like a screw, I hold it with a locking tweezers. If the part is larger, I hold it by hand. I will heat the part with a hair dryer until it is warm, not hot. I will apply the bluing with a Q-Tip or a cotton swab, depending on the size of the area to be blued. Depending on the metal or the blue I want, it could take several applications. When you get it to where you want it, put some oil on it to stop the reaction. I usually use Break-Free LP, instead of CLP, because LP does not have the cleaner so it does not evaporate as fast. Let the part sit for a couple of minutes and then carefully wipe it off. That is all there is to it!
WORKS WELL ENOUGH, IF USED RIGHT
CLEAN THE PARTS TO BE BLUED WITH SOAP AND HOT WATER. (FROM THE FAUCET IS FINE) WHILE STILL HOT, RUB THE PASTE ON WITH A TOOTH BRUSH SCRUBBING IT IN. RINSE WITH THE HOT WATER, DO THIS A COUPLE OF TIMES. DRY, AND WHILE STILL HOT, SPRAY WD-40 ON IT (THIS SEEMS TO SEAL IN THE BLUE) i HAVE DONE NUMEROUS GUNS/PARTS WITH THIS METHOD AND IT STAYS BLUE WELL.
Really, it works
I've been using this paste for over 20 yrs.The trick is to follow the instuctions,KEEP IT CLEAN,and take your time.There are some metals that it doesn't work as well on but I have even been able to get a fair job on pre"64" Winchesters .I have found this to be a cheap easy blue job.This is not a substitute for hot tank bluing or good rust bluing but it does a good job for the amount of work and expense involved. Does not work very well
I got this so I could blue my AK receiver and the reason why I got it was that it came in a kit and it was cheep. It looked good when I first put it on but after I washed the cream off it took some of the bluing off and it gave it a weird tiger stripe pattern. I thought it work for the time being. After I took the rifle to the range the first time most of it rubbed off and parts of the receiver was left in the in the white. I reapplied it a few more times but it had the same reasults.
