Reviews Summary
Overall, reviewers appreciate the durability and quality of the DURABLUE™ spray-on blueing, praising its finish and ease of use compared to liquid alternatives. However, some note issues with coverage and nozzle performance, as well as the high cost and limited yield per can. Most reviewers feel the product has great value, particularly for non-collectible firearms.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Product Quality
70%
Many users commend the product for its excellent finish and durability, stating it creates a deep blue tone that closely resembles traditional bluing. Reviewers highlight the visual appeal and its effectiveness for personal projects, suggesting it performs well under proper application.
Ease of Use
65%
A significant number of customers find the spray-on application to be much simpler compared to traditional liquid bluing methods. Reviewers appreciate the ease of achieving good results, making it more accessible for hobbyists and mid-level gunsmiths.
Coverage and Yield Issues
60%
Several reviews mention challenges with coverage, reporting that one can is insufficient for multiple firearms, leading to dissatisfaction. Users recommend having extra cans available to avoid running out during a project, indicating concerns over yield.
Nozzle Performance
45%
A few customers report problems with nozzle clogging shortly after use, which can disrupt the painting process. Although additional nozzles are provided, this issue could cause frustration, particularly for users working on multiple items.
Price and Value
55%
While the higher price point of the product (over $50) is noted, many reviewers feel the quality and finish justify the cost. Some caution that it's best suited for sentimental items rather than valuable collectibles, emphasizing the product's value for DIY projects.

Good results if you have a little skill.
This is an excellent product and produces a very nice finish which seems to be holding up real well. To the gentleman that gave this product a two star rating stating he got anorange peel finish. I can only say orange pill is a result of the user. One of the reasons for orange pill is too much paint which you stayed in your review you put a thick third coat on. It can also be from spraying too far away and a couple others reasons if you look it up. But again it's not the products fault it's user fault and often happens with people rushing a job and again spaying too thick. Hope that helps.

Amazing product!!!
I have been painting for 40 years but just recently got into gun refinishing. the Durablue works great and replicates the deep blue original finish found in most guns back in the day. I used the aerosol for large rifles and shotguns but find the the spray volume and pattern a little too big for the small parts on handguns , (like inside trigger guards) so I switched to the liquid with a airbrush for that with fantastic results .

Fantastic finishing product
I decided to reblue a pistol and have an assortment of the liquid blues that area available. I decided to try this spray on blue to see how easy it is to use, as well as how it looks. I could not have been happier with the result. It has a deep, even, and shiny finish that wont corrode and is easily wiped clean. This was much easier to apply than the liquid blues I have used in the past. Okay, lets be honest here: It does not look the same as traditional bluing. If you are restoring a valuable firearm, use the method originally applied to preserve the value. If you are working on something with only sentimental value, this is a great choice. The various color options also make it a great choice if a color change is being done.

Nice finish
This is one expensive can of paint by the time you add the shipping costs, over $50. It does produce a fabulous finish, but you must follow the directions, light coats and use your heat gun between them. It makes the firearm look gorgeous but, after all, it is paint, epoxy or not, and time will tell how it wears under field use. One tip, wear plastic gloves as the stuff won't come off your hands for weeks. Two cons: I have done two guns with this and on both cans, the first nozzle plugged within minutes. Fortunately, they do send you two nozzles. Unfortunately if you use that second one to replace the first one, you better have 2 guns ready to go. You definitely will not get more than 2 long guns out of one can if you do all the detail parts, and the shelf life is realistically only hours. Plan on some mistakes on your first try so have two cans handy plus some 0000 steel wool. Worth a try, the finish is far, far superior to any cold bluing on the market. This is a great option for us mid level gunsmiths without all the expensive tools.

Spray DuraBlue - Polished Black
I followed the instructions on the can and the YouTube video produced by Brownell related to DuraBlue. The rifle was a Winchester Post 94 with a barrel length of 18 inches. The rifle was completely taken apart, cleaned using brake cleaner and acetone. Following the instructions, i lightly lightly sprayed 3 coats and the final finished coat was sprayed very wet, almost to a point of running. After the first 3 coats were applied, the finished had a rough orange peel texture. The heavy coat smoothed everything except on the upper side where I ran out of paint. Yes, there was not enough paint in the can to finish the receiver and barrel. The tube magazine, lever, bolt, and accessories were not panted. I do not understand how 2 long guns could had been painted. I did not waste any paint. I am now sitting on a unfinished rifle debating if another can, at $50.00, should be purchased or sending the rifle out to have another type of finish applied.
