What is the BIRCHWOOD CASEY - TRU-OIL STOCK FINISH?

Easy-to-use Tru-Oil brings out the warm, natural beauty of a wood stock and gives it the look of a deep, rich, hand-rubbed finish without the hassle. It requires an average of only three coats and dries so fast - 90 to 120 minutes per coat - that a stock can be finished in one day! Tru-Oil is a purified triple-processed blend of all-natural oils that penetrates into the grain to seal out moisture. Won’t yellow or cloud the grain, and the surface becomes harder and tougher. Apply multiple coats to produce a high-gloss finish, or for a more subdued satin finish, cut back the gloss with fine steel wool or rubbing compound, then apply Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen & Conditioner (sold separately). Tru-Oil is perfect for refinishing existing stocks; for an unfinished stock, first apply Birchwood Casey Clear Sealer & Filler. Minor scuffs and marks on a stock finished with Tru-Oil are easily fixed: just rub the spot gently with a pad moistened with Tru-Oil.

SPECS: Available in 3 fl. oz. (90 ml) and 8 fl. oz. (237 ml) bottles. Dries in 90 to 120 minutes; cures in 48 hours.

Best easy finish there is.
I've done several stocks from freshening an old dry thirsty one to a complete refinish. the more coats the shinier and deeper the finish, all the way up to glass like. I've watched a multitude of videos of how to use it and almost every one turns out very well, with all different way to get there. I do a couple of heavy coats to get the grain filled and then I wet sand in between to get a smooth surface after all the thin coates. I give each coat plenty of time to cure, and that's the hardest part of doing a great job, the waiting. It is a very good product and provides excellent results.

Go-to stock finish
I have used this product for many many years. I have tried other fi ishes, and keep returing to Tru-Oil as it provides the appearence I want with the ability to repair or touch up spots as needed, at any time. Many other finishes do not lend themselves to touch ups. I have found that the application of several coats of tung oil appled first over bare wood provides the durability and water-resistance necessaery for stocks that will not remain safe queens. Tru Oil applied over that makes for an excellent appearence and dries quickly enough to complete a stook in reasonable time. And best of all, evewryone in the house likes the smell of it! Dispose of any and all materials used properly. Oil based finishes will auto-ignite.

Best stock finish
Easy to use, can be gloss or matte finish. My only complaint is I wish it was available in larger quantities than 3 or 8 ounces. 16 or 32 maybe?

Essential on any stock maker’s bench.
Have used Tru Oil for over 60 yrs. It will always be among my favorites for everything from full finish to seal coats and touch ups.

great stuff
easy to apply with your finger. Gives a nice shine. I used 4 coats to restore a 70 year old stock to look like new. I think you could do 10 guns with the small bottle
