Salty But Worth It
A few folk in various reviews speak to the price of this tool. The arm this tool was used on was a Remington 870 20G Leightweight, about 20 years old. The owner wanted to swap the stock forend for a Choate after market. After attempting to remove the forend nut using all typical techniques and KR oil and meeting no success, the Brownell's wrench was ordered. PB Blaster was liberally applied to work while the tool was en route. The wrench arrived in about a week. The forend was placed in a bench vise with two layers of leather for protection. The wrench was applied without success. The wrench end was tapped three times with the ball peen hammer and another attempt was made to remove the nut with no success. Three more taps on the wrench, and the nut began to turn. The wrench was used to back the nut completely off. Inspection of the threads revealed signs of over-torqeing. The forend tube was removed from the stock forend and cleaned. Anti-gaul was applied and the nut was worked back and forth. All excess anti-gaul was removed, and the new forend was installed. The Brownell's wrench made reassembly very easy, and made it possible to get the new forend nearly perfectly centered to avoid any side-saddle issues. The Brownell's wrench also allowed proper tightening of the forend nut without overtorqueing. Very much worth the investment. Thank you, Brownell's.
