What is the XS SIGHT SYSTEMS - Magazine Tube Detent Swage-Remington 12 Gauge?

In the past, installing a magazine tube extension on one of the 870/1100/11-87 series of shotguns was as simple as removing the mag cap, prying up the magazine spring retainer and swapping out springs before screwing on the extension. With the advent of the detent style magazine spring & mag cap retention system this is no longer possible. Now one has to find a way to remove those detents so the follower can slide past them. The most common solution is to grind them away from the inside; while effective, this looks terrible and creates two ready access holes in the mag tube for dirt & other debris. XS® Sight Systems Magazine Tube Swage will allow you to easily remove these detents without creating these holes.

Works better than I expected!
I used a little aeroshell grease on the inside of the tube and on the swage. Just enough to get it shiny. A few taps with a hammer to drive it in, a couple taps with a copper mallet on the dimples, and it came out with my hand. The Wilson combat extension went on with no feeding issues. Took 3 minutes.

Solid product
This is a good product and is an inexpensive option of you are not doing a high volume of extension tubes. If you take your time and follow the directions it will take less than 15 minutes and the tool will come out with no issues.

Works great, easy to use
Used this to remove the factory dimples in the magazine tube on my Remington 11-87. Make sure its unloaded, remove the barrel and forend, then remove the follower, spring and spring retainer. I used a wad of cotton balls below the dimples to keep any debris from getting down into the action. Clean the magazine tube, then place a small amount of grease in the tube and on the surface of this tool. I used a brass hammer to drive it down into the tube, then a smaller brass hammer to pein the area directly around the dimples while the swage was still in the tube. It will be very tight to remove and slightly swells the tube, but the forend and retainer nut will still go back on. Took a total of 10-15 minutes and couldnt have been easier, I highly recommend using it!!
