passes the value v. utility test. yes, the vinyl coating on the steel will eventually tear from the hand guards. duct or electrician's tape will fix that. very comfortable solid red handles. worked perfectly on the AR's I tried - mag well lock, squeeze, tug and hand guards dropped right out. it comes in a *very* secure blister pack. you'll work to get it out. I waffled btwn 4 and 5 stars. may not be the tool if you're doing 10 or 20 rifles a day. for me it works perfectly. I've no problem with buying another, or recommending it for most AR owners.

I ordered this so I could add a Bi-pod mount to my Colt CR6700A4. After watching videos of its use, it seemed like the ideal tool for the job. However, after using it TWICE, once to remove forward handguards, then to try to get them back on, the cheap plastic has all rubbed off. So, I guess this is a one-time use tool only! Brownells should stop selling junk from this company.

I know what you are thinking, "Well I only need to put on one or two handguards, there's no reason to spend more on a tool I'll use twice." If only I could be as young and naive as you are now. This "tool" is complete and utter garbage. I have never had two things happen in my life, and one will have happened after buying this useless pile. I have never purchased someone else's garbage and I have never thrown away a tool that is not broken. I considered the second point might be moot, because this clearly came pre broken. I have come up with a solution to keep my two values, this was clearly intercepted along it's way and replaced by anti-gun people in order to give me a fit of unholy rage. Well they did an excellent job, and I applaud their efforts. Since their mission is accomplished I would respectfully ask them to please send me the real one as there is no way Brownells would willingly sell and publish actual pre-purchasable garbage on their site.

I have used this tool 3 times. By the third use all the plastic coating on the area contacting the delta ring had torn off. I could not recommend this tool for even casual use.

As soon as I applied pressure and pushed down to remove the handguards, the coating stripped away from the steel on the tool, slipped and marred the delta ring on my rifle. These are absolute junk and you shouldn't purchase them. Avoid my mistake.
