Worked Great
First things first I am not the machinest guru I want to be. Like most milling nebs I find myself living for it and near financial ruin tooling up with all my wants. I have been at it on multiple 1911 builds and feel pretty confident. I have broken 2 non-carbide dovetail cutters before but as others have mentioned this one worked well. From prior experience I pushed this through a depth of 0.100" with the feed rate of a snail at 500 RPM's and copious amounts of cutting fluid. I did not do a relief cut, I felt exit and entry was more risk than benifit. I have only been able to use this once so far so I can't speek to longevity yet but no chipping of the endmill seen so far.
5
Great tool
Just finished milling Novak cuts in four 1911 slides. 400rpm and lots of oil. The last cut was just as clean and fast as the first. Great quality tool. Exactly what was expected from Brownells.
5
works excellent
Cut a Caspian commander slide for a Novak style sight. Ran it at 650 RPM and 1 IPM just to be safe and it cut easily. First came in with a 1/4" end mill and made a .260 wide by .075 deep slot then used this cutter .075 deep. Worked like a charm, job finished in less than half an hour taking my time.
5
Great Cutter, great price
Worked excellent to machine the "novak" cut on my 1911 with trijicon HD sights. The .005" undersize from the typical .495" cutters gave more 'meat' to dress with a file to fit the sight in tight. As for durability, we'll see, but cryo vs hSS $ wise is close, so why not get the cryo?
5
Pleasantly Surprized
The slide I was working on was really quite hard, and I had some reservations about using anything but carbide to cut the rear dovetail. However, after my previous experience with Brownells' satisfaction guarantee, I decided to try the Cryo-Treated cutter. It cut that hard slide like butter!
