The Brownells Carbide Front Sight Dovetail Cutter is designed for precision machining of lengthwise dovetails used to install aftermarket handgun front sights. Compatible with many popular sight designs from respected manufacturers, this cutter is intentionally undersized to allow for precise final fitting while helping compensate for normal machine wear over time.

Constructed from solid carbide, the cutter delivers exceptional wear resistance and long service life, even when machining hardened steel pistol slides. Its durable construction provides clean, consistent cuts for professional gunsmithing applications, making it an ideal choice for front sight installations and custom handgun work.

Designed specifically for milling machine use, the Brownells Carbide Front Sight Dovetail Cutter helps gunsmiths achieve accurate sight cuts with the precision required for proper front sight fitment. Available with either a 60° or 65° shoulder angle, it accommodates a variety of sight installation requirements.

Required cutter for hard pistol slides
This is the cutter for front sight cuts especially on hard (Colt, Caspian, etc) 1911 slides that defy high speed steel. Used with care, the cutter will last for many slides. Only down side, is that if you carelessly run it into something like the mill vise, you can shatter it. This should only be used in a milling machine, as an unstable set-up will break the cutter, such as in a drill press.

Great Cutter - Novak sights
This is my second time buying this cutter, my first has worn out. Follow the recommendation on speeds and you should not have any problems. Definitely the cutter you need for hardened slides. Perfect for Novak sights.
