BROWNELLS - Barrel Vise Only No Bushing

Overall the vise works as it should. Even when I temporarily attached it to A frame rail?? It will ci m e in handy fir all my future plans.

Purchased to remove action from a Tikka T3x CTR 24" 6.5mm Creedmoor Bolt Action Rifle which are notoriously torqued on. ( use # 7 bushing 1.150 “) The vise is Rock Solid comes with everything except the 2 bolts to bolt it down to the bench. Uses 1/2 diameter Bolts x the length you need # 5 hardness with a 3/4 head. Used blue painters tape on action and barrel and pine rosin in bushing. I had to tighten it up to the point where I was sure I had bent the barrel to keep it from spinning ended up using a 3 ‘ cheater bar on the action wrench to break it loose. I actually picked up the side of the bench the Vice was bolted down to while removing the action Removed tape no scratches or mars on either barrel or action. For first time uses measure the barrel where the action and barrel meet. First couple of inches of barrel will determine bushing size. Several bushing options to choose from which will be a few thousands larger then your barrel more then likely. Clamp barrel closest to action for best results .

Arrived early with no damage and no parts missing.This vise is the best I found on the market from my experience.

This massive vise is the best I’ve found. Massive bearing surface for bushings. Bolts anywhere or I use it under a big hydraulic press, which works great and is quicker than tightening the four bolts. My only complaint is very minor; I’ve seen 1/2-20 bolts with a 1” long exterior hex head (for standard wrench/socket) that I believe would be a good addition. The bolts mine came with are internal hex head for a large Allen wrench. I have ‘rounded’ the inside of the hex holes with ill-fitting Allen wrenches and I think large external hex head bolts for use with a big socket would eliminate this issue. These bolts must be VERY TIGHT to keep the barrel from spinning in the bushing, requiring a long handle ‘cheater’ bar, and it is tough to tighten to the required tight-ness without damaging the relatively shallow Allen-type hex bolt heads. Ther than that, this vise for $129.00 is far cheaper than if I had to make my own!
