What is the BROWNELLS - BRN AR-308 Barrel Extrension Torque Tool?

308 AR BARREL EXTENSON TORQUE TOOL

Handy tool aids in applying straight-line torque for fast, easy installation of the barrel nut without scratching the exterior of the upper receiver. Helps ensure the right amount of torque is evenly applied, while maintaining proper alignment of the barrel, upper receiver, and gas tube ports. Use with any barrel nut wrench or free-float tube wrench and a torque wrench with a ½" square drive. Simply clamp the barrel nut wrench handle firmly in a bench vise, insert the barrel into the upper receiver, and finger tighten the barrel nut. Slide the barrel through the wrench, insert the Torque Tool in the back of the receiver until the teeth lock into the locking lugs in the barrel extension, and apply torque with the torque drive through the Tool to tighten the barrel nut. Precision machined from heavy-duty steel bar stock for years of reliable service. ?Available for the 308 AR. NOTE: Will NOT fit the DPMS G2 versions.

Very flexible tool and the best bargain for an AR-10 builder
This is the best bargain for the best type of tool for your large frame AR building needs. You can either put a driver in it and fix that in a vice to use it like a reaction rod, or you can shim the nut into your vise and put this in your receiver to get precise torque on your upper.

Right tool for the job....
I did a barrel change to my AR10 and needed the proper tool to facilitate that. As always, Brownells has the proper tool, a barrel extension torque tool, that fit and functioned perfectly. The installation of my match barrel went without a hitch. As hobbyist, I appreciate Brownells for having the tools needed to get a project done!

Best tool for the job
I recently purchased the 308 version of the barrel extension torque tool, after using the 223 / 5.56 version for several years. I consider this type of tool vastly superior to all other types of vise blocks I have tried. I bought a piece of 1/2 inch bar stock that I use to mount the torque tool on, which I can clamp in my bench vise to hold the upper in a vertical position. This leaves both hands free to torque barrel nuts, muzzle devices etc. with zero strain on the upper itself. Highly recommended.

Right tool for the job
Building a .308-AR, I had big concerns about applying 65 ft. lbs of torque to the barrel nut while supporting the upper in a vise. The barrel extension torque tool was the solution for that concern. With the barrel extension tool all of the torque is exerted at the barrel extension. The issue then was how to hold the armorers wrench while applying torque to the extension tool. My armorers wrench had three holes spaced about an inch apart. I drilled matching pilot holes into my bench and screwed the wrench to the table with the spanner end hanging over the table edge. I dropped the barrel down through the spanner opening and rested the barrel nut into the wrench. Then, with the wrench supporting the receiver and holding the barrel nut seated in the spanner, I torqued the barrel nut to 65 ft. lbs stepping up from 45 lbs in 5 lb increments stretching the threads three times each. My barrel is now mounted to specifications and my upper / barrel nut have zero marks or cracks as a result The only issue that I have is that it is a big, heavy, single purpose tool that I may never use again. Probably cheaper than paying to have it done.

308 assembly
I finally broke down and bought this and it makes assembly of the barrel to the upper receiver super easy. I wish I had this years ago. Also great to assist to change out a flash to a brake. It's got a little bit of weight to it but is worth every Penney if you do barrel changes often or full assemblies.
