While loading 155TMKs for a 308 gas gun, the stem that came with my competition die was crushing the tips, as the opening in the stem wasnt deep enough for it to contact the ogive. This stem fixed the issue. Now why they call them standard or long, I dont know. The long one is the same length as the one that came with the comp die. The standard one is shorter is not capable of seating the 155TMK to magazine length - the sliding sleeve bottoms out before getting the cartridge anywhere near 2.8 COAL.
