What is the SINCLAIR INTERNATIONAL - Deluxe Neck Turning Tool With Handle, NT-1500?

SINCLAIR NT-1500 DELUXE NECK TURNING TOOL

The Sinclair NT-1500 Neck Turning Tool’s ergonomic exterior is a slightly scaled down version of the premium model and features fine (80 threads per inch) adjustment on the cutter depth screw. The adjustment screw is engraved with hash-marks for easy fine-tune adjustment. Each mark on the adjustment screw corresponds to an approximate 0.001" change in cutting depth (0.00104" to be exact), making it extremely easy to adjust well within 0.0005" of a specific neck wall diameter.

  • Fine cutting depth adjustment (0.001” Adjustments)
  • High speed tool steel cutter
  • Hard coat anodized finish

The NT-1500 comes either by itself, or with the Sinclair Neck Turning Handle included and utilizes the same high speed tool steel cutter as our other neck turning tools. Excepts all Sinclair Mandrels .17 thru 338.

What Reviewers Are Saying
Cutting Performance

Several customers appreciate the tool's ease of adjustment and use. Its straightforward design allows users to set it up quickly, making it accessible for both beginners and experienced users, though this is sometimes overshadowed by cutting issues.

Easier to adjust and more mass
This isn't click adjustable, but it's not hard to get the cut you need. Plus it has more mass to suck the heat away if you are turning fast.

Does everything I expect
This is my first neck turning tool, but after using it heavily for over a year, I can't think of any improvements that could improve this item. I'm very satisfied with the construction and layout. I only use this neck turner in conjunction with my Redding case length trimmer, which isn't that great of a trimmer, but it does work well for quickly grabbing the case for turning. This allows me to rotate the case with one hand while I use the other hand to hold the Sinclair turner. I can't imagine using the case holder that is supplied. Finding another way to rotate the case has made neck turning almost enjoyable. I'm glad that I also purchased the proper mandrels and mandrel die. This system works so well, I wouldn't want to try it any other way. I've removed the expander balls from most of my dies and only use the Sinclair expander when resizing, which is now my preferred means of brass prep. .

Great tool, bad mandrels (avail. sizes)
IMO, neck turning works best (wall thickness consistency) AFTER the necks have been expanded (NOT sized down). This tool works very well in getting that job done, the problem is that the available stock mandrels allow far too much slop/play as the brass is being turned to get the results the tool is capable of. For example, I am using it for .338LM and even WITHOUT expanding the necks, the only available .335"dia mandrel allows far too much slop; expanding the necks to get a ROUND, CONSISTENT neck for turning purposes makes it far worse. As such I had a custom mandrel made locally to get the job done which cost me as much as the tool itself. And while I understand that keeping the tool simple and therefor keeping the cost down was probably a primary consideration, the unidirectional depth setting aspect of the tool can be tedious, however the setting is repeatable so it's not too bad to back off and approach your desired depth again.
