Classic And Effective All-In-One CLP
I've been using Ballistol to clean, lubricate and protect my firearms (and knives!) for decades. Its safe to use on steel and polymer firearms, glass optics and wood stocks. Its a classic non-toxic all-in-one cleaning and lubricating product...with a couple of caveats. Its fantastic at protecting your firearm from corrosion and rust. It seeps into metal, wood and plastic and leaves a protective finish (but will eat away at gold or silver). Its great for cleaning carbon and corrosive gun powder but you will need a dedicated copper cleaner for stubborn copper fouling. As a lubricant its good for pistols and bolt-action rifles but a high-heat and friction semi-auto rifle like an AR definitely needs a synthetic oil or grease since Ballistol will burn off rather quickly. The other big negative is the smell which comes from its plant oils. It smells like licorice (or Jagermeister) which a lot of people absolutely hate! This is a deal breaker for many otherwise a great product especially for the first-time gun owner.
Great overall product
Ballistol is a terrific gun cleaner and lubricant. The only criticism I have is with the aerosol tube - it doesn't easily fit into the spray nozzle.
Ballistol aerosol format
Ballistol is a top-notch product. I've used it off & on since around 1997 with no problems or issues. In the late 1990s, I used a can of Ballistol to clean & restore my cousin's used, rusted out Remington 1100 12ga shotgun to like-new condition. It's non-toxic, CFC free, safe to use with bare hands, and has a light pine tree scent. Ballistol is great as a firearm CLP or for general use by a armed professional(LE, corrections, private security, armed forces). It's handy for the shop or home too. The only real - thing about Ballistol is that it doesn't come in larger spray sizes(10oz, 12oz, etc). It also may be hard to purchase in some US locations but you can buy it online. Overall, Ballistol is worth the $$$ to any hunter, camper or gun owner.
Ballistol
Smells/stinks, otherwise a great cleaner.
Good stuff
This product is very over-rated, but I gotta admit its good stuff.
Nice CLP
I have to say for like a 30+ year old product it is still up to the task of cleaning todays firearms. I like this product more for cleaning then breakfree CLP. Can you use this product as a lube only? I wouldn't go that far but as a cleaner and rust proventor it does work good! A must have in any cleaning kit.
Good product
This product does a great job at cleaning, and they say its a rust protecting too, I will agree to a point that this lube doesnt seem to stay on for very long, thats the only reason it didnt get 5 stars from me. Other wise a great product, does have a smell though
good 'nuff 4 Wehrmact, good nuff 4 me!
My understanding is that this came about as a bore cleaner/preservative for the German Army pre-war. I have used it with black powder, corr primers, etc. It seems to do as claimed. Also will clean tarnish from metals! They used to say it made your bore as clean "as an operating theater." Also good for preserving leather!
