THUMBLER'S TUMBLER STAINLESS STEEL TUMBLING KIT

The Sinclair Stainless Steel Tumbling Kit features Thumler’s Tumblers Model “B” 15 lb. tumbler and 5 lbs. of Stainless Steel tumbling media. This kit can handle up to 2 pounds of brass and is designed for wet tumbling use. DO NOT DRY TUMBLE!!!! Put the 5 pounds of Stainless Steel media into the tumbler, fill with 1 gallon of cold water, and add up to 2 pounds of brass and a couple teaspoons of dish washing detergent. The tumbler usually needs about 3-4 hours to completely clean the brass. Remove brass from solution, rinse with cold water and dry. Once finished, your brass will be cleaned inside and out, even in the primer pocket. For additional shine on your brass, tumble them for a short time in a standard vibratory tumbler with corncob media and polish.

Use Dawn Ultra rather than Ivory

I like this method over the walnut shell media using the vibratory method, the brass is cleaner. I tried Ivory liquid today on 200 rounds of .45 ACP. After 4 hours the water had hardly changed color and the brass was greasy gray. I immediately re-tumbled using 1/2 teaspoon of Dawn Ultra plus 1/4 teaspoon of Lemishine. 40 minutes later... perfect brass. I dump the batch into a rotary case separator. It only takes five minutes to separate the wet cases from the pins. I leave the brass in the separator and use a Lakewood fan on high speed and the whole batch is dry in about 10 minutes. I usually have a powerful magnet nearby. put the magnet inside of a plastic cup, pick up the pins, hold the pins and cup over the drum, and pull the magnet out of the cup to drop the pins. It beats picking up stray pins with your fingers. Also, when clearing the dirty water, I just hand hold a hose with warm water in the bottom of the drum and stir the cases and media around until clear water is the only thing overflowing. You are then able to see what level your media is at when you dump most of the water from the drum.

pins size .040, .041 vs .047

My tumbler came with stainless pins that are 0.040 and 0.041 in diameter mixed in the same bag. So when you're done cleaning the brass, pins get stuck in the flash holes. If they had included pins that are 0.047 in diameter the pins would not be able to fit two pins at a time in the flash hole. Other than that it works perfect.

Works well, but...

A great littl tumbler, but it should have the drum "wheels" coated with some mild abrasive to keep them from slipping if they get wet. The media is definitely hard to work with, but does the job. Unfortunately, the stainless wire should be slightly shorter and slightly thicker as they stick sideways in primer pockets for small primers and 2 pieces can get caught in the flash hole.

A very useful accessory.

I just got it yesterday. The main thing I didn't like was the screws on the motor. They stick outone inch which is totally unnecessary! Addidionally, there are four screws on the side opposite the mounting plate, also one inch long that have no function except to catch on your hands. Otherwis, it's perfect. I'm reluctant to cut off the excess on the screws in case I have a problem with the unit, but I don't think I will as it is pretty well made and unbelievely quiet (I especially love quiet). I'm still unclear about the media. They say you don't have to clean it, but with all the dirt and grease on the shells, that doesn't sound right. I have a gunsmith that uses a much larger tumbler. He says all he uses is liquid Tide in it to clean the shells.

Best Case Cleaning Tool

This product works as advertised when you use dawn and lemi-shine. Stainless pins and water are a bit of a pain, but if you use a standard media separator and water, eliminating pins and recovering them is not too bad. The results are excellent. I deprime without resizing before cleaning. You get a perfectly clean case including the primer hole to resize and prime. Eliminates the need for cleaning primer pockets. Even the inside of the cases are clean. You do have to dry the cases before loading.
