AR-15 FREEDOM FIGHTER FIXED MAGAZINE CONVERSION KIT

AR-15 FREEDOM FIGHTER FIXED MAGAZINE CONVERSION KIT Reviews & Ratings

The Hogue Freedom Fighter AR-15 Magazine Conversion Kit lets you turn a standard, mil-spec AR-15 lower receiver into a fixed magazine lower to comply with various state and local restrictions on detachable mags. Sure, we know these restrictions serve no constructive purpose, but the law is the law and responsible gun owners have to comply. Once the Freedom Fighter AR-15 Fixed Magazine Conversion Kit is installed, the magazine can only be released when the upper receiver is disassembled from the lower receiver. The Freedom Fighter Conversion Kit is a permanent attachment, but the user can uninstall it to return the rifle to a normal drop-magazine operation when you move to a more firearm-friendly jurisdiction. Kit includes:

  • 3 spring-and-pin assemblies
  • Drilling jig
  • Two drill bits
  • Spring and pin assemblies for converting additional rifles are sold separately as the Freedom Fighter Fixed Magazine Refill Kit

For best results, Hogue recommends installation by a professional gunsmith or machinist, but the Freedom Fighter AR-15 Fixed Magazine Conversion Kit can be installed by anyone with good mechanical skills. Brownells carries several items needed for installation that can be found at the following skus: 123-000-005 5/64" Allen Wrench, 395-832-001 8-32 Tap, 078-101-152 Magazine Release Assembly, and 231-000-096 Magazine Catch Spring.

The product I received did not match the pictures here, or in the installation video, or in the instructions that came with the kit. It became obvious that the design was changed, but no description of the changes. I called Hogue and they said the product had been changed, but they probably didn't include the new instructions. They gave me the link to download the new instructions. They are SIGNIFICANTLY different than the video or the instructions that came with the kit. You MUST get the new instructions and follow them exactly! The new method describes how to insure the large hole is drilled in the correct location. Mine wasn't based on the old method. Hope I didn't trash the lower receiver. Then, there is a new bushing for tapping the large hole, and a new bushing for the small hole, which doesn't go in the jig, but directly into the receiver after the large hole is drilled and tapped. The jig is very difficult to install correctly with the forward takedown pin in place as described. You have to use a clamp to make it flush and clamp it very tight. Also, the kit doesn't include the 8-32 tap, so you'll need to get one of those to finish the project.
