I ordered direct from Brownells, and the magazines are all in Factory Springfield packaging. (Plastic bags). They are identical to the 1911 magazines that I also obtained from Springfield's website. The Springfield Magazines appear to be identical to the 8-round Shooting Star magazines, but there are some differences: There's a small "C" stamped on the base plate, and the Springfield magazines have "45 ACP" stamped on the left side of the magazine tube, down low near the base plate. The Springfield magazines also have 5 witnesses holes, whereas the Shooting Star has 6 witnesses holes. Otherwise they are identical. I'm not an expert on this, but I suspect that the Springfield magazines are made by Check Mate. Regardless if they are Checkmate, Metal Form or even Mec Gar, they are good quality magazines. The magazines that were included with my Springfield 1911 do not have the "C" stamped on the base plate. Anyway, I also have an assortment of Wilson Combat 1911 Magazines, but I haven't noticed any difference in reliability. Your mileage may vary.
