Good alternative to my hand load (147gr)
I had been using (and still have some) the Syntech 124gr factory ammo since March this year. While it is a good ammo, it is a bit too hot for USPSA application. One day, I chronographed it and it came out at 143 PF (AVG) out of my Sig X Five. Found these at a very reasonable price (Thanks Brownells!) and bought 1000 rounds for major matches. Its PF came out at 135 at a recent major match and I was very happy with it. It is considerably softer and pretty much identical to my hand load using 147gr coated bullets (135PF). Its accuracy is so so compared to my hand load but this is the best compromised alternative. I have found a few rounds out of 400 round sitting upside down in the cases with the bullets partially damaged. The quality control might be questionable. Proceed with caution. All that said, I will buy more from Brownells as their price was great in this crazy time and shipping was super fast. Thanks a lot
Federal Syntech Action Pistol 150gr. 9mm
Functions well in my Canik TP9SF, pretty accurate and clean burning. No complaints. Was pleased to have found it in stock.
Flat gun
I was introduced to this product by another competitive shooter. He gave me a handful and suddenly my 9mm felt like a .22. Accuracy in my 4.7" barrel is comparable to other quality ammo, but required some minor sight adjustment. It functioned well, and should improve my shot times when used competitively.
Syntech Action Pistol 150 grain
Used for practice & competitive shooting. Clean, lighter than average recoil, which is important in competition. It is supposed to be exceptionally clean, but has been leaving too much synthetic jacket behind throughout pistol.
Not quite the cat's meow
Began using this when it first came out for Steel Challenge as well as some knockdown. Not sure quality control was the greatest (see photo and yes, I did fully document this with Federal) and have read posts elsewhere commenting on the bullet in backwards issue. Out of probably 4000 rounds fired only a couple of feed failures; inspection showed some coating abnormalities. Never have had a failure to fire. My most recent 1000 round purchases dating back a month or so ago look markedly better than my early purchases. Extremely soft shooting to the point where I'm down to a 12-13 lb. recoil spring on my Glock 34. Despite the low power factor the round seems effective on knockdown. I have seen what I consider to be price gouging elsewhere (not at Brownells) when in short supply, high demand so I try to stock up when it is available here. Due to bullet weight, design, and low velocity I don't consider it to be the most accurate or consistent round out there but for action steel it serves its purpose. Splash back is almost non-existent as advertised. This round is probably the most cost effective alternative for those who don't reload but need the advantages it offers for action pistol shooters.
