Adjustable Mag-pul Lite AR Stock
Bought this for my H-Bar Colt AR, with which I affixed a Vortex 5X Prism Scope with BDC reticle, atop a Picatinny rail, mounted on the AR's "Carrying handle".
Needed a raised cheekpiece to align my eye with the optic. Due to a short eye relief (no adjustment left on the rail/mount!) I have to move my cheek closer to the eyepiece! The raised cheekpiece does not have sufficient matierial towards the forward end of the stock to fully support my cheek! A longer (not taller!) cheekpiece would have been very helpful, and earned the additional star!
a good alternative
I have to agree with a comment from other users - it seems strange that adjustments require different size allen wrenches, when it seems (to me), it would have been easy to have a common size wrench. Not a big deal, but a design flaw that Magpul should have addressed in my opinion. Other than that, it does what it is supposed to do. I have a couple of the original PRS buttstocks, which are easier to adjust and have a wider range of adjustments, but are more expensive. For the shooting I do, once set ease of adjustment is not an issue. It only becomes so when my wife or grandkids want to shoot this rifle.
A5 tubes
When mounted on a VLTOR RE-10/A5SR tube you will have about an inch and a half of space until the locking bolt contacts the adjustment portion of the tube. Its not a huge deal because it does take some effort to pull the stock away from the receiver.
A great new design with some flaws
The PRS lite Buttstock is very robust in design and has some significant advantages to the older Magpul PRS system. It was very easy to install on a carbine stock. Put the stock on a Carbine Buffer tube use the provided Quick detach mount/tension screw and tighten with a 1/8th hex wrench. That is it! It fits good on the lower very tight and I feel no issues however there are some design problems I see with the stock. First is the 3 forms of adjustment. The length of pull and comb height use a 5/32 hex wrench to unlock the adjustments to the stock, however the Butt Padd height /cant adjustment requires a 1/8 hex wrench to loose the screws to make the adjustment. This is an issue that could of easily been fixed by using the same hex screw size. The second issue is the length of pull could be 1 to 2 inches shorter if they removed or moved the optional QD point (hardware not included). This would help accommodate smaller stature shooters and shooters wearing body armor.
