:( breaks too easily
Makes a simple job much more difficult when it breaks. I used to think it was going to be easier to deal with if I broke a tap, but these break so often - frequently in a blind hole, and are very difficult to extract. Now I use sturdier taps that better resist breaking. HSS and or two flute.

Wrong Item
I ordered one of these and got something different. The tap was 48TPI, but the diameter was not #6, it was 0.110" dia, which is between #3 (.099") and #4 (.112"), probably a #4-48 tap. It was marked #6-48, just not made to #6 diameter (.138"). The person I talked to promised to check the diameter of the free replacement he was sending, so I hope they send the correct one. Obviously a factory error.

Bad Experience Here
I bought this tap to thread the hole for the elevation screw on a Bomar style rear sight. I purchased two taps and the corresponding #31 drill bit. I measured the drill bit to ensure they were proper size. Since this was my first time using these taps I did a practice hole on a cracked slide that I had laying around. I used a tap guide on my milling machine to attempt to tap the hole. I broke the first tap using light hand pressure to turn the tap handle. I drilled another practice hole and managed to break the other tap I purchased. These taps are horrible. They are carbon steel and made by Hanson. I've tapped a lot of holes doing gunsmith work without breaking any taps until I used these. I will not use these again and recommend anyone else that needs a tap to get a good quality HSS tap.
