Good Reliable Tool
Like most tools and parts I’ve ordered from Brownells, this punch is high quality, it has the aesthetic appeal, and solid feel to it that conveys the workmanship involved with manufacturing this tool. The tip sets tight on the roll pin. The head is smooth and chamfered edge allows even distribution of force from your mallet. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is that it could be improved with a rubber sleeve or similar sheath that would further protect the receiver from scrapes and scratches. A quick wrap of electric tape adds this, imo integral, layer of protection should your grip slip while performing the task.
It works
I screwed up installing the roll pin in my first build. I ordered a KNS Precision c-clip pin, but couldn't remove the half-installed roll pin with any tools I had lying around. This simple punch did the job. I'm sad I had to use it but it works.
Best tool for the job
Was very helpful couldn't find this part anywhere else got the job done only thing is it should be completely flat on one side so it will sit flush with the rifle this doesn't so you have to hammer at an angle and could damage the tool.
Good Quality Punch but could be Better
This is a sweet little pin punch that is a quality tool. It feels good in your hand and has Brownell's name on it so of course it has to be quality. It is 4" long and is flat on one side which makes it easier to get in close to the receiver to insert the bolt catch pin...but it is still too short!... you can still scratch the receiver on those last little taps from a brass hammer as you set the pin and you still need good dexterity or a third hand to hold the pin and receiver in place to start the insert. This punch needs to be at least an inch longer. The best solution I have found (besides a threaded screw in pin) is two punches. A 6" hollow tipped starter punch to hold the pin in place to start it and then followed by a 6" pin punch to tap it home. But all that being said, this is still a good quality punch for the money and will stay in my tool box.
Kind of expensive for one little punch..
Kind of expensive for one little punch but it did make uninstalling a normal bolt catch and installing the Geiselle mariner catch a ton easier. I broke my original punch trying to get these darn things out so I didn't start with this thing. If you're installing a bolt catch do yourself a favor and attach the bolt catch to the rifle with a punch first, then move the punch out of the way with the roll pin you're driving in. This will keep everything lined up. Cons: it did bend a little bit installing the second pin. I was beating the poo out of it though.

The quality of the punch is one I don't have to defend. If you're looking at Brownell's , you already know their stuff is the best. This got here faster than other things I ordered before. No hoopla, just great service.
