The Brownells A1 Carbine Barrel Assembly is designed to be the ideal component of any XM177 rifle reproduction or any lightweight AR build, coming equipped with most of the materials necessary to complete a retro build.

Almost.....but not quite.

The specs. were right on this barrel, the chrome lining and gas hole were clean, and it shoots pretty well, 1.25" at 50 yards during initial firing and sight in....BUT the rear aperture is nearly in the wall to get this upper zeroed. I only have one or maybe 2 clicks left before it bottoms out. I really do not like this. Every time I look through the sights my eye just hangs up on the far left drifted sight.

Canted front sight base

Bought a 11.5" 1:7 twist barrel. the barrel showed up without a bayonet lug and immaculate in fit and finish with the exception of a shiny gloss handguard cap. Sent one back due to the front gloss cap being scratched, received a replacement that was just as scratched; finally received a replacement that looked perfect. Finally got around to installing the barrel and the fsb is canted to the right at about the 1 o'clock position, Rear sight is about midway to the right. I've been buying pencil barrels from brownells for years. Love my 1:12 11.5" ordered back before they shaved the front site bases, i'm surprised to get one this far off.

Great but a little misleading...

So I purchased this upper for a M733 upper clone and for all intents and purposes, it's great. Easy install. Quality and workmanship upon initial inspection is great, but here's the bad news. The photo of the 11.5" barrel clearly shows the fsb with bayo lug. Well mine had it's bayo lug removed. Why? Idk. I didn't plan on using a bayonet with this upper due to barrel length, but aesthetically it does lose points in that category. I hope Brownells rectifies this issue so not to mislead their customers.

Perfect for XM177

It has an F marked FSP, so of you buy the brownells retro line of receivers you have to change that out. Otherwise it would have been perfect...

Warning: F-marked barrel

I just got my barrel in about an hour ago, however I was upset to see that it uses a F-marked frontsight block, which makes it both incorrect and hard to zero for a retro build. The barrel has a nice finish and M4 ramps, which is fine, but I am still quite confused as to why they would sell a retro carbine barrel with a modern flat-top FSB.

Functional, but description incorrect.

Very functional barrel, but does not match description, was described by Brownell's as an A1 barrel with a "Durable matte black phosphate Parkerized finish" which is just what I wanted, but that is not what it is, as delivered it is a shiny black nitride finished barrel with a F marked A2/4 front sight base, not as described or desired. If your looking for a 10.3" barrel to match with a flat top receiver and don't mind a shiny barrel, this is just what you want at a great price ($139 on sale) Just not correct for an old school A1 build.
