Now, aficionados of the system can build reproduction of early rifles with the Brownells A1 Carbine Barrel Assembly. The Brownells A1 Carbine Barrel Assembly is designed to be the ideal component of any XM177 rifle reproduction or any lightweight AR build, coming equipped with most of the materials necessary to complete a retro build.

Maybe the third time will be the charm!

I am told this morning that the third barrel will be on the way. Both the previous barrels (12.7" 1-12 twist) had canted (left) front sight towers. This of course caused the rifle to shoot to the right. To zero the rifle at 25 yards required moving the rear aperture almost entirely to the left. This is unacceptable for an otherwise good barrel. (Both previous barrels grouped well despite A1 sights and older eyes!)

Terrible Fitting

No matter how hard I torqued the barrel nut the gas tube channel ended up in the 6 O'clock position, so I had to shim the barrel extension by literally a quarter inch to achieve alignment and proper torque. Then the gas block hole ended up being way too small for two different gas tubes I had ordered. Based on other complaints with canted sights and improper gassing, it seems like the quality control is just not there and you have to jump through hoops to make this fit and work with other mil-spec parts. I would have rather just bought a complete A1 upper, but of course Brownell's discontinued that.

Very overgassed, unusable

Purchased the 12.7" and installed the brownells moderator. Standard m4 buffer spring and H2 buffer. Very hard recoil and brass ejection forward at 2 o'clock.

This is not an10.3 inch barrel

I ordered a 10.3 inch barrel and Brownell’s got it to me very quickly. The problem Egan after I opened the plastic wrapped, sealed barrel to find a 10.5 inch barrel. This of us who want a 10.3” barrel know that a 10.5”won’t work when building an accurate clone. I contacted their customer support and the two ladies I spoke with were very helpful to the point of getting me a replacement barrel very quickly. I spoke to them on Friday afternoon and had the replacement on Sunday morning. That’s great customer service. BUT, they were supposed to have someone check to make sure that the correct length barrel was in the box. When I saw that the plastic wrapped around the barrel had been opened I was hopeful. But again the barrel was 10.5”. I measured both barrels correctly by using a rod and bolt locked in the lugs and both came out at around 10.479”. I suspected this since the shoulder of the barrel was farther forward of the front sight base than is normal for a 10.3” barrel. This is bad QC
