AR-15 C7 STRIPPED UPPER RECEIVER Reviews & Ratings

AR-15 C7 STRIPPED UPPER RECEIVER

Brownells expanded its lineup of retro AR-15 components with the new Brownells C7 Stripped Upper Receiver. This unique receiver design features the correct carry-handle contours for Canadian C7 clones or the Colt Model 723 used by the military during the "Black Hawk Down" time frame. Each Brownells C7 Stripped Upper Receiver is built with a similar profile as the company's M16A1 upper receivers, including an original A1 profile that incorporates a shell deflector, A1 rear-sight housing and the aforementioned carry-handle design.

  • Completely stripped
  • A1/C7
  • Shell deflector and forward assist housing
  • All-black finish
  • Has M4 feedramps
  • Works with all standard AR-15 components

Made from 7075-T6 forged aluminum, each Brownells C7 Stripped Upper Receiver is machined to military specifications and then treated with a matte-black, hard-anodized finish.

Poor fit
Had to file on the rear takedown hole to get the upper to fit a LaRue lower. Not impressed.

Doesn’t fit my lower…
Good price… got it under $100 because it was on sale. But it looks like I got one of the ones that don’t fit correctly. Large gap in the back on my lower and the holes don’t align. I guess you get what you pay for…

Poor Quality
These upper receivers should be blems. They aren't milled out correctly and are barely serviceable on a lower.

Problems still
Based on the recent positive reviews I ordered 2 of the C7 uppers. When they arrived I found both receivers had a gap at the back of the upper where it mates with the lower. I tried multiple lowers from 6 different manufacturers and between the two uppers the smallest I could get the gap was .020", with the largest gap almost .035". Would it be safe to fire with a gap? Probably. Unsightly? Definitely. As others have noted I believe the pivot pin hole was improperly located. I could get the takedown pin installed with the receiver halves flush but then the forward pin holes were misaligned and would not allow insertion of the pivot pin unless the upper were moved forward, which resulted in the gap. A shame as they are otherwise nice uppers at a great price.

Disappointed
Mine came in with a perfect finish. Excellent looking no scratches or dings. Saw the other reviews so I decided to test fit it on some lowers. Turns out the front takedown hole was misaligned and the rear hole elongated so the pins would fit. Just like the other reviews. If you insert the rear takedown pin the upper can be moved back and forth. Put in the front pin and there's a gap at the back of about .025-.030". It's probably useable but would bug me to death with that gap so nope...Sending it back.

Serviceable, but a blem
Build quality seems decent enough. Blemish to the finish and a dent to the carry handle. If this was listed as a blem I could see this as acceptable, but that was not the case. Will update if there are more problems with assembly. Also packaging was lack luster, just a plastic bag to protect it from the other items in the order. Could have been caused by the A2 birdcage that was shipped in the same box bouncing around before delivery. Either way, off to a rocky start.
