Extremely useful slide holding fixture
I've actually had one of these for about 20 years and got it from Brownells. This is a rugged tool, that has held many hundreds of slides during machine operations in my shop. It is used for milling for sights, slide porting and relieving, and for flat topping and ribbing the slide. I also use it when milling in forward serrations into the slides. I have added an extra hole for a lock screw to hold the short slides that are not accommodated by the stock fixture. This is an A-Plus fixture that has survived decades in a busy shop.
Works well when modified
I would have given 5 stars but this fixture really needs to have an additional opposite hole pattern drilled as well as a bevel on the opposite side so the slide can be machined on bothe sides for slide serrations and vent cuts. Otherwise it is a brilliant design.
QC need work - threads not fully formed
Haven't had a chance to use it yet. Needed to pick up a tap from McMaster because the threads are not fully formed (and are full of blast material). Finally got the tap (another $28 with shipping from McMaster) and got the threads cleaned out. Holds the slide well now, we'll see how it does on the mill.
QC lacking
I love the design and will hopefully enjoy using it - but I need to wait until a tap gets here because the through holes aren’t fully formed (one was, but full of blast material). Trying to chase them out with the bolts was a no go. Add $28 to the cost to pick up a tap from McMaster.
