S&W REVOLVER EXTENDED CYLINDER RELEASE LATCH

S&W REVOLVER EXTENDED CYLINDER RELEASE LATCH Reviews & Ratings

Oversized, extended cylinder release latch allows you to unlock the cylinder without having to reposition your grip hand. Ensures fast reloads for an extra edge in competition. The extended arm’s unique geometry maximizes leverage and allows the shooter to bring substantially greater force to bear with less movement than needed to operate the factory latch. Oversized thumb pad with deeply grooved face offers solid, nonslip contact and is angled to further improve leverage. Standard model is a short, compact design that fits most shooters with average hand size. Long model is slightlylonger to accommodate shooters with small hands.

SPECS: Stainless steel. Standard - .98” (25mm) long, Long - 1.24” (31.5mm) long. Fits Smith & Wesson K, L and N frame revolvers. Some fitting may be required.

Big improvement
The fit and finishes is great but I feel the item is a little overpriced for what you are getting. I originally ordered the extended version but it was a bit too long for an L-frame revolver so I sent it back and exchanged it for this one. This is a big improvement over the original S & W cylinder release. It gives you something more substantial to press on and you dont have to change your grip to press the release. I just noticed today that Smith & Wesson is now offering this style of cylinder release on a few of their performance center models.

The right part for the revolver.
If you have more than one Smith & Wesson revolver, here are some things you need to consider: 1) hand size, 2) grip size, 3) model of revolver. For me I find the short version works on the models like K and L. For the models 629 and 627, the long version. As I had more than one model, I ordered one of each. From those two I could determine which I liked and ordered others from there.

It feels like I have a new pistol
I watched videos of how I reload my revolver at matches. I noticed by changing my grip it is taking me longer to reload the moon clips and get back on target. I saw it in use at the ICORE Regional match at Ontelaunee R&G club. The first day I took this to the range it cut down my reloading time and getting the sights back on target. I installed it on a S&W 627 and it fit perfect. Ii also fit on my holster with no problems. I recommend this to anyone who wants to speed up their reloading time with a revolver.

Nice product
Well made and installs quickly. Needs a hard press on lever to allow cylinder, harder that the original. However, in a hurry or with gloves it could be easier as no slippage on lever. This is is over priced.

Useful
I now own two of the long versions. They fit the K38 and K22 and are solid when you are holding the firearm and pressing the latch. If you put the gun down you can wiggle the latch a bit. The original part has zero noticeable wiggle on each firearm. If this wiggle was not present and the price was reduced I'd give it five stars. I intend to use these during shooting events so my grip hand will stay in place and I'll reload with my left hand. I've tried it with snap caps and it works. NOTE - If you have issues with your joints you may find it much easier to open the cylinder using this extension. NOTE - The distance from my wrist to the tip of my middle finger is 8" (Large glove size) and the Long Extender works for me. The Short Extender is too short for me.

Great concept
This is being used on a S&W 625JM for competitive shooting. It's a great idea and in use by a number of people I shoot with. It allows release of the cylinder w/out changing your shooting grip too much. The only downside - in the "standard" length, it's too short. I have normal/large hands and I still have to change my grip to fully depress it. I just ordered the "extended" version and I suspect it will be perfect. The standard should be great for lefties or anyone who presses the cylinder release w/ their left thumb. Installation took 30 seconds or less, if you can use a screwdriver you can put this on with confidence. It also looks great on a competition revolver. It's a little pricey for what it is, but I have no doubt it will perform a lifetime of service and then some. Make sure the rules for your sport allow it though, some games don't permit this modification.

Uncertain
I wear a large size glove and the short version was a bit too short on my K38. I may order the large version.
