Rebound Slide Spring Tool
it was difficult to keep tool on spring while compressing. it kept slipping off. if edges of tool had grooves, it may hold better.
Could work better
The OD of the tool is the same OD as the spring, thus it wants to slip off the spring making the tool difficult to use.
Shuttle spring tool
The handle spins. I made one from a screwdriver that is vastly superior.
Slot too narrow for J-frame
It did the removal job on my J-frame after using a jeweler’s file to open the slot slightly. Reading the reviews, this is a common complaint among customers. As for reinstallation, it was ill suited for compressing the spring. I used a small screw driver for spring compression during reinstallation.
Smith and Wesson rebound spring removal tool
The channel wasn’t wide enough to clear the spring retaining pin. I opened the channel width with a file but then It wasn’t deep enough to compress the spring. Used a dremel to increase the depth and then the tool worked great.
Works, but questionable value
I have managed to get by without this tool for many years. I decided that I would give it a try. It works but I'm not sure it's worth the price. The tool consists of a round rod the same diameter as the rebound spring and with a slot cut in the end of the rod. There are a couple of bends in the the rod to provide clearance around the frame and a plastic handle on the other end. 1. This tool should NOT cost $20. 2. You can make one yourself. 3. Not sure you really need to buy or make one. On the plus side, it does work although the slot could stand to be a bit deeper.
Slot in tool is too small
The slot cut into this tool measures .065. The post on my S&W 642-1 measures .088 diameter. I should not have had to file this much to make it work properly.
No J
Not able to use on a J Frame S&W .38. The post diameter is too large to accommodate the tools gap. I have widen the gap with a Dremel grinding wheel. Hopefully Ill be able to use it next time.
