SURFACE HARDENING COMPOUND Reviews & Ratings

Easy-to-use compound case hardens plain and low carbon alloy steels. Carburizes surfaces quickly to uniform depth while retaining the toughness of the core. Also protects delicate, highly finished work, and helps eliminate the need for remachining. Simply apply the hardening compound to your metal parts, heat to the required temperature, then quench in oil or water for a professional grade, heat-treatment. Helps keep the edge sharp on expensive drill bits, milling and grinding tools, punches, firing pins, hammer davits, trigger pins, sears, and cocking pieces. Water soluble for easy clean-up. Complete instructions included. SPECS: 1 pound (453.6g) can.

Hard stuff
I've used this for year's. Love it. Makes a nice hard surface. Great on trigger Sears. Depending on your polishing skills. Super smooth Sears. I also use this to harden tools. Comes in very handy.

Works great.
Used on soft metal and it hardened it enough to skate a file. Great for making small fire arms parts hard ie; linkages, firing pins. Hardened a trigger which was soft at contact with hammer engagement. Will use on chisels and punch faces also. Easy to use and a soak in water will remove it.

Great product for small parts
I shoot flintlocks and occansionally the frizzens need to be rehardened. I could not find KASENIT so I decided to try this product. It works very well to reharden frizzens and other small parts. It is also easy to use. You can find procedures for rehardening frizzens on the web. This compound works just like KASENIT and stinks just as bad. I had found other products but they were twice the price for basically the same thing. You will need a heat source that gets up to 1650 degrees.I like this stuff so much I bought two.
